Yes, re the 850 euros, I was a bit surprised as well, but we kept pretty clear notes of expenditure and using the "kitty" approach made it easier to keep track.
Once you leave mainland Europe the cost of everything drops rapidly. Eg loaves of great bread were about 20 cents each, fruit and veg was also really cheap, average cost of a 3 course meal was about 5 euros.
It made for a fantastic first "big trip" and one which has really sewn the travel bug in me.
Well all I can do is applaud! Five kids and a 9 year old with the adventure bug means that it might be a year or two before I follow in your footsteps but your account certainly brings it to life and your budget means that it might actually possible in the next year or two if things go well.... thanks for sharing!
