Replacing P38 Door lock Barrel

Hi, Our p38 Drivers side door handle decided to brake, when my husband had to put the EKA code in, Only to find the key didn't fit the lock properly. So we searched Ebay for a New handle with Barrel, Cudn't find one. ( Even if I did, I wouldn't pay the price that greedy people are charging on there for p38 stuff aren't we penalised enough.)
So a scrap yard it was. My husband was told you couldn't separate the handle and change the pins in the barrels. But you can, he has. And everything is gr8.
So if any one wants to know how, just ask. Didn't take him long.

Yup, you're quite right, a lock's a lock. It's all the gubbins round about it that makes it special to a P38.

Flippin fiddly job though, I'll bet he loved it, especially when he was finished.

i have to change the barrel on mine this weekend would love some guidance. the sensor int eh woor handle is shot and you have to whack the door handle every time to get it to register shut!

any info would be appreciated

Hi Guys, i have to do this job nxt week so any help and info much appreciated
 
Its quite easy, the barrel is housed in an alloy tower sort of thing at the back of the door handle, this is held in place with a tiny roll pin in one corner. Drill it out or simply cut the corner tag off that it goes through, then twist said tower and it all comes apart. You then do the same with the handle you want to swap barrels with. When you put it back together you drill a tiny hole in the other corner tag and put a pin in it to hold it all in place, i used a nail cut down and glued it in. It is fiddly but pretty easy.

Thanks for this info, I know it was several years ago but really helped me after a numpty of a mechanic broke the little plate on the back of the lock (told me it had rusted, nope just snapped). He suggested a scrap handle with a separate key but didn’t want that and wondered if it would cause problems.
Anyway got a scrap handle, took lock apart and put it back together with these notes and all seems good.
Just waiting for a clip to attach the lock to latch rod and should be good to go.
