replacing boot floor

i know this subject has been covered many times but i need to ask a few things that i cant find out .
1 . im going to be doing the work myself in a few weeks so is it easier to drill the spot welds out or cut the floor out with a disc cutter ?
2. what kind of welder do i need ( bear in mind im only really gonna do this with it and im on a very tight budget ) ? i have a qualifaction in welding so whatever type you recommend should be no problem .
3 . i know its a stupid question but what does the new floor sit on to make it flush with the rest of the body , is there angle iron or something it sits on and does that usually need replacing as well ?
4 . what else should i look out for when the floor is out ?
5 . how long realistacly should i be look at to do it ?

no discovery was harmed in the making of this horror story and it now has a full m.o.t, took 4 men 2 days to do, new boot floor new side panels and a big sheet of metal for plates and a new passenger rear wheel arch lol
 
Took me 2 days to do the boot floor, supporting area's and all floor crossmembers etc on mine ........... but i cant work as fast as i used to due to a back injury :(

Use a MIG welder (thought you'd have known that being a qualified welder n all) and when ordering the new boot floor be prepared to order new crossmembers etc as these will be shot in most cases too :(

If your Disco is a diesel you would do well to clean out the fuel sedimenter and clean it out while the floor is removed as it's much easier to do this way ;)

If the supporting structures that run along both sides of the floor are rotted out trimmed down angle will do the job nicely :D :D

a crate of guinness and a favour bein called in raz, not bad lol, only regret is not doin fuel sedimenter while it was out so got to do it the old hard way now
 
did mine couple of months ago i was suprised how easy it was once i got stuck in, even learned my self to mig weld.
had to put couple of peices in near wheel arches and new floor supports.
couldnt save the lip that the new floor pan sits in so i got some small angle iron and welded it in to create new lip worked a treat and is now even stronger than when it came from the factory.
I also forgot to do the sedimentor before i put floor back:mad:
ps im 25 never even used a welder before so if i can do it anyone can!

I did mine a few months back when I did my marathon weld it up month.

I still have the psychological scars.

Mine was worst even that the pictures above. Both my supports (not the top hat ones!) were totally gone. As was the sides of the shell where they used to be connected. Both my inner arches were rusted out along the seam.

TBH I cheated a bit with mine. I used an angle grinder to grind out the spot welds. Contrary to common practice I pot riveted mine back in.
 
i know the fellas who did mine will never mentally be the same again mine was that bad lol. saw you before on green lane raz tried to catch up to let on to ya but my license is hangin by a thread one more point an im walkin so couldnt go over 30 lol
 
yeah fella that was me, remembered the letterin on the side of your landee. just got another 3 points so ive gotta drive like me nan haha
 
am suprised you saw any lettering the state its in at the mo, been off the beaten track about times this week and not one wash :eek:
