As always yer right about Irish, Gemsdad.
Apart from explaining to me how the Faultmate works, listing the software I needed, explaining to me ( several times) how you put it all together, telling me how to work it when I got it together, 15 emails and a telephone call........

Not this one.....

the least chavviest X5 on the planet I think. Toureg earlier cars (read for that: affordable!!)suffer from awful reliability probs, as do the earlier XC90s and MLs. The Cayenne is terrible and the Lexus really really boring. Not much choice really, if you need the recaro type seats. Retrofitting recaros to the P38 will cost a relative fortune as I'll have to get bases made up unless a smashed up Overfinch happened to pop up with a perfect interior, even then, with the labour and rewiring etc it won't be cost effective on a 10 year old car thats done 135K

Rangie still on the drive though, still in regular service, will maybe look for a new home for her after Xmas I think!!

The Faultmate has never yet been plugged into the Rangie as I've been working away from home and haven't managed to get the complicated malarky re registration sorted with BlackBox yet, was always waiting for something - a USB serial convertor, then emails which never came etc etc- just as well really, or it would be locked to the old girl and no other!!!!. Probably no point her just sitting out there on the drive, though, so will likely do an ad when I'm home over Xmas. If only Range Rover made half decent recaro style seats I would never have had to change the old girl for any other car!!:doh::doh:

I just spend 3-4 days doing the same as you are doing with the Faultmate. Irish kept me right but if there's any basic numpty stuff that's giving you grief you're welcome to pm me.....but it needs to be stuff like......"do you know where I left the car keys ?"

Irish offered to help in his usual most unhelpful way

but I needed a few extra adapters and hadn't actually got around to doing the activation as I've been away from home on contract, now I think I won't activate it on the old Rangie as I probably need to find her a new home when my X5 comes home next week. :doh:

I would echo the sentiments above. Being helpful does not give anyone the right to be plain or abusive. The whole point of the Forum is to obtain help - even if the question has been convered several times - the answers are often lost in a wealth of other chit chat.

From my point of view I would perfer people like Irish Rover write nothing rather than be abusive.

I would have thought teh moderator should be cutting out a lot of this??
