Oh dear, I have been a bit of a div. I have locked my only key in the boot of my L322. Easily done, as I clicked the tailgate release button on the key fob, put the key down as I fiddled around in the boot, then shut the boot as I walked away, sans key

The sunroof was open on the tilt, so I tried to push the unlock button, the boot release button and managed to get hold of the drivers door handle and pull it, all through the sunroof. Unfortunately, none of these things worked.

So, what's my next option?

Can I just order a new key from Land Rover using the VIN and if so, will it work, at least to unlock the door so I can retrieve my existing key?

I need a spare key anyway so the cost of this is not the end of the world.

Are there any other options I should consider, short of a brick through the window :)

Cheers

Well, I'm guessing I would need to go to dealer with proof of ID and V5 in my name, but it appears that replacement keys from VIN are possible, just wasn't sure if it would then need my car to be at the dealer for programming. Obviously I can't take the car, but if a non programmed key would open the door, I could then Go back with car if needed.

Ok, as replies are a bit thin ones ground I will update this with what happened, in case anyone else is a stoopid as me.

Ordered a key from Land Rover using my ViN number. The key came cut and programmed to my car, but not coded to open the doors remotely or unset the alarm. Used the key in the lock to open the door. The alarm went off, but I quickly grabbed my old key from the boot and silence it. Boot release still would not work until I had unlocked the doors with the original key fob.

I then coded the new key, and the old key again, to the car following the instructions found on the web. Boom, two fully functional keys.

The price of all this was £150. A expensive mistake, but I needed a second key anyway and still a better option than putting a window through.

Well done for putting this up :) - a lot don't :(. Nice bus the 322, but am them lectronical thingummys are a bit scary :D

Cheaper than a P38 key then! Good to know they can be had from the Vin without taking the car down there. Luckily I do currently have two working keys but you never know!

Has anyone out there had to replace a Key yet. I lost one this weekend & I want to replace it. So I was wondering how much they were going to want for this as well as do I need to go back to the Dealer? I am guessing yes because there is probably some kind of Computer Chip that needs programmed! Thanks! :gunz:

Depends on what model of car you have.

Funny thing about using the VIN, my L322 was originally exported to australia when new and stayed there for 15 years until it came back via Ireland to england. Although it has the usual SALLMAM prefix the VIN never works from an id point of view and we have to use the age etc. The major plus point though is that somewhere during the re- registration process the vehicle has become a 'land rover unknown', as a consequence it is ULEZ free despite being a 3.0 diesel! Just to add to the confusion the log book which is in my name states that my 2005 plate Rangey was first registered on 17.02.2006 and that it was first registered in the UK 01.10.2018 extremely confusing but the Ulez free status saves £12 per day that we would have to pay otherwise. I tried to do a bit of research by looking up the engine number which is 202661110 but to no avail, does anyone know how I can find out more details using the engine number? I would be intrigued to know if it has had a new lump fitted as it has done over 195,000 miles! Incidentally the speedois in KM's but the overall mileage in miles.
