removing the inside of freelanders cat?

im thinking of removing the inside of my freelander 1 td4s cat, I want it to look like it still has one so thought this was easiest option but will it still pass a mot? cant seem to find a definitive answer. also what are the real benefits of removing the cat?

Any help appriciated

I think also where airbags have been removed from steering wheels are due to be introduced

as if the srs light doesn't illuminate about failing the mot

like everything things may just be speculation on what u read on the net so if they will or not fail an mot im not in a position to say as im not an mot examiner
 
decatting your vehicle will reduce the DP across this part of the exhaust, potentially allowing for power increases.

I decatted my 2.0 xedi and it did seem to go a "little" better

I wouldnt strip the guts of a genuine cat though as the landrover ones are worth a reasonable amount down the scrappy. Better to buy a cheap decat pipe and weld on the outside of a cat (from said scrappy once the rare metals have been removed) and he presto... a lack of changes of diameter (resulting in less DP losses) and itll be cheaper.

As the cats are presently not tested in this country for an mot, its internals are not needed. However if it looks like its been removed its an mot fail.

Could you have a cat on for the mot then a decaf pipe the rest of the time?

Is it really worth removing the cat, does it really release that many extra horses?

I suppose that way you could, as it would still be on for mot. im not really looking for extra power just extra mpg as getting 30 mpg just now and used to 50mpg in last car so feeling it hard lol would be happy with a few extra mpg. I have run wynns injector cleaner in it, adding mineral oil to fuel (250ml to full tank) changed oil and filter, air filter, turbo filter, crankcase filter and fitted a egr bypass in the last few days so see how that goes!
 
your looking at 40 ish tops i would say

my xedi gave me 40 once i fitted road biased tyres, decat, chip etc.

But also depends on the hournys you are doing, its a relatively heavy vehicle and also quite un aerodynamic so its not going to be the same as "normal" saloon
 
everyone keeps telling me that I should be getting atleast 37mpg but I just cant seem to manage lol hey ho if 30-31 mpg is all I can get that will have to do as more fun than my last car! been up a few dirt tracks and forest tracks that my last car wouldn't of made it near so its all good! haha

i fitted a synergy tuning box and it transformed the car , td4 auto , get 40 mpg on a run

the other thing to check is the maf sensor , I've got a bosch maf in mine

am just waiting for mine to come back as I've had it rechipped and upgraded , so that it can be fitted with a dashboard switch that can be altered whilst driving along

an Eco setting for max mpg and power for extra torque

will be interesting to see what mpg figures i get with the upgraded version

a lot of us have them fitted
 
How would I know if it was the maf sensor? No lights in dash and I did unplug it and toOk it round the block and it didn't seem to make any difference to when it is pluged in is that normal? It is the air flow meter the maf sensor isn't it? Haha

hi mate

the maf gives out different readings etc and can over fuel or under fuel

however

37 is most and 25 least (going steady)
30 is usual on a mix of town and other.
 
Thanx for the info a lot of good points to that box, will it really make that much of a difference in the mpg? That's amazing
 
i chip all my diesel vehicles and hate driving ones that arent! - other chips are available for the td4 - not just the synergy.

My personal opinion is they are a waste of time and money and can be worse not better.
A bit like the Crypton tuning of the old days.
You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, as they say
