Hi guys, I've bought a set of 24spline axles from a 300TDi discovery to fit to my defender. I need to change the output shaft from the 3 bolt one with the rubber doughnut to the 4 bolt one. I've got the doughnut thing off but can't figure out how to get the output flange off now? I've had defender ones off before but this one diesn't have the big nut in the middle. I've tried tapping the flange up with a wooden hammer but didn't want to fustercluck it so thought i'd wait and check with you folks. :D
Cheers, Harry

If no joy with the 3 arm extractor tool(although i think will work) u can do the next improvisation: go to a scrapyard and get a same flange as the one u want to extract, weld an(at least) M14 nut on its back side, put the welded side against the axle, use 3 long enough bolts with nuts to connect the "tool" to the flange then take a long enough M14(or what size nut u decide to weld) bolt and screw it in.....as the bolt will go through the nut it will pull the flange from the diff's axle. Or u can just make a thread through the "toolflange" and a long enough bolt to fit in(in this case u need a lathe) and use that instead of the LRT(whatever) tool.

you need to remove the fails safe extension from the flange first, use an 8mm bolt that can be then pulled with a slide hammer, then the locking nut for the flange is revealed below that. Do not forget that when you fit the normal flange you will also require the 12.5mm spacer that fits before it on the output shaft.

The shaft comes out and the nut is under it, I can get you some pics if required, you don't need a spacer if you get the right flange, can't remember the part number off the top of my head but can find out if you need it

Nope don't think so the flange on the 10 spline diff only has 4 large slpines and the 24 has lots, I think the part number was stc4858???
