Remould balancing

So just been to the garage to put my dakars on. When they had finished he told me that they couldn't balance them as the tyres were too heavy as they were remoulds, drove home and felt like I was all over the road. Tyre size is 235 70r16, so they're hardly the biggest tyre. Should I find somewhere else which has a heavy duty balancer?

Did they try to balance them? Or not bother
 
i work in a tyre garage and ive balanced a set of 265/75/16 dakars before.took a bit ov weight, but them sayin they cant is them meening they cant b arsed
 
Ayup,
I balance my own tyres. Put some General Grabbers 235/85/16 on the front recently.
I put 200 Grammes of plastic BB pellets in the cavity and now no balancing issues.
I bought enough pellets to do all 4 wheels for £4.
Give it a try. You might need to try 250 to 300 Grammes for mud terrains though.

I balance tyres at work and sometimes the big ones can throw up all sorts of readings, not all balancing machines can cope with bigger tyres, that said I don't balance mine and have never had an issue, have done other sets without balancing and they too have been good, a few grams on a massive heavy tyre won't generally upset the balance but its perfectly feasible that they will cause vibrations so am guessing I have been lucky. I have got Insa Saharas 31", they are remoulds and I have no vibration from them

You can buy balancing beads and they are brilliant, have used them on wheels that won't go on the machine and they have always worked, very common for truck companies to use them for roadside fitting
 
we've balanced many insa turbo even the real nasty treaded insa's. to be honest without sticking loads of weight on em they dont always balance as well as you want them to. i hav't balanced mine , 245/75/16 kumho kl71 and they're fine on the d1.
if they dont judder the steering id leave em.
 
should have said aswell, i cant remember if the insa come with these or not but usually there is a yellow circle stamp or white.... that you line with the valve, it's supposed to help with balancing a little but i dont know how much diff it really makes but its just a force of habit now for me.
 
I had the front tyres on the 110 swapped over as the Insa Dakars fitted to the ZU's were a bit worn. took the BFG muds (same size and pattern. off the steel rim and had them fitted. 265/75/16's. Got more lead than a church roof on the fookers. but they're balanced.
 
I would of thought you could get them somewhere near just by fixing them to the balancing machine and using gravity.i used to balance HGV wheels whilst still on the truck using this method years ago.
OK it's not perfect but near enough for something that's not going to beat any land speed records.
There's to much reliance on pooters in this day and age ffs.:crazy_driver:

I'd say that my special tracks needed a lot of lead to get em balanced annorl but I aint having you come along and nick it all for weighing in.:(
 
I've balance loads of off road wheels normally have to gain after a week or two after ther wear a bit mainly insa special tracks, just sounds like they couldnt be arsed to me
 
Been out tonight and feel like its ok until I hit about 50/60, then I'm weaving a bit, it's not terrible but I think I'll have to get it sorted, doesn't quite feel safe enough.
