How long can I expect the batteries to last ?.

I am replacing every 2 weeks, cheap or dear batteries last the same amount of time.

Sounds like you have a faulty fob I'm afraid.

Its a trip to your local LR dealer to order a new one. Here comes the bad news....expect to pay £115 inc VAT for one.

Take two forms of ID and your RR's registration document with you and expect it to arrive in 5-7 days.

DONT buy a cheaper replacement from the net or magazine, they arent worth it and put your RR's security at risk.

Yep, I looked at it after posting last night.

It don't look right inside, the tab the battery connects to is damaged.

I already know the prices of the fobs, no easter eggs for me then.

Sorry, I disagree with the Foreman. As long as you have the VIN and the reg document call a reputable supplier and they will order you a fob. Coding it to the vehicle takes about 5 seconds.

I got mine in about 8 days, it's a genuine LR fob, and have had no problems.

I wasnt refering to say reputable known suppliers and obtaining an official handset, I was talking about companies that use radio data recorders to obtain your RR's fob code and provide you with a split key and handset solution.

Thats what I meant by putting your RR's security at risk. They maybe cheaper, but I just dont trust them.

I've checked the voltage of the old batteries, still 3volts +,

So the dash board is telling me remote batteries low, do I look elsewhere i.e the RF Receiver.

Rimmer Bros have suggested this, seems feasable don't it.

If you havent upgraded your RF receiver or the previous owners havent either you need to change it to part number YWY500170.

Its definately worth its weight in gold as it transformed my RR....although at £145 plus labour it isnt cheap.

as far as the reciever is concerned its a known fault with them and i have been told or read recently that if you go into your local dealership and insist that the faulty item is replaced at a minimal cost and that landrover have tried to rectifiey the problem previously without success they will then replace the unit either f.o.c or labour free i cant remember which now but any sort of discount has to be a bonus has`nt it :) :) if you just go in and ask them to replace the unit though without making a bit of a fuss then they will and then charge you accordingly :( maybe someone else on here can enlighten us a little better hope this helps a bit though

I like the sound of FREE.

I'll try that.....keep you posted.

Interesting that I have no faults with the rest of the system i.e no flat car battery.

I'm going to switch remotes on a daily basis to confuse the system, see what happens.

I complained about the problem and didnt have to pay for the labour cost, only the part.

So it sounds like LR may do that for anyone provided your willing to make a fuss and make a good arguement.

Yes, completely agree with that. Think about it: "Please send your keyfob to my gaff in Mosside so I can copy it. Oh, and please also send your credit card details, and the address where I can pick up a nice Rangey in a few weeks' time. Thanks."

Wouldn't bother myself.

Been away for the week, took both remotes.

Basically one key displays the message, remote battery low.
The other displays, engine disabled, press remote.
I now have trust in the key that re-enables the engine, as this works every time.

Point to note, both remotes can work without any messages being displayed and car starts fine.

Am I still looking at the RF Unit being suspect ?.

Update

Replaced the RF Receiver at a cost of £150, fitted it myself.

But still have the same messages coming up on the dash board.

Do I need something reset ?. Disconnect/Reconnect the battery.

Both remotes work, but do they need re-syncing ?.

I didnt do it myself, I had my local LR dealer do it for me as part of the deal.

Logically, thinking about it, they may need re-syncing as the RF receiver is totally new and may change the security just enough to need extra attention.
