I know Mate, It was the video that jogged my memory, Must remember tomorrow when I start on other bits, Was looking forward to doing the tank but although its not that bad on the surface theres loads or crap jammed under the guard. not sure weather it will prize off to clean then put back on, and there's a pipe which has seemed to have broken from the inside, it will be a while before its getting fitted back on so might wait and buy a new one when ready.

Make sure you wear thick gloves and, more importantly, a full face visor when using the wire cup in a grinder. The wires break off and spear you, been there done that.

As for the tank, the gaurd can be removed by carefully breaking the spot welds on the flange, the gunk you can see might be the sealent LR used to stop (unsuccessfully) moisture getting in. I've found on two tanks that extensive rot will be underneath that gaurd both on the gaurd itself and the tank.

Just had a closer look at your tank pic- its toast

Buy a new one and a new seal/retaining ring for the sender, you will need them.

Just a quick update, Got myself good Twist wire brush for grinder, much better, Cant afford to go buying the any dear stuff at the moment with been off work so just got a small bottle of Carust as to be honest there was not much rust on it by the time Id finished, just a little surface rust in the small hard to get places, so covered with this, then Red Oxide Primer from Tor Paints. Will order some Fertan later for any bad bits.
Starting to enjoy myself now cleaning bits up, gonna start on some radius arms and other stuff tomorrow.

Bit more done today, think I need another wire twist brush. Gonna start on the Radius arms next, I watched a video on how to get the bushes out, will have to find it again., or might just do them while there in and change them when I need too, they seem not to bad anyway.

One thing I MUST get for the Topcoat is a Good Paint Brush, just used cheap one for Primer and you van see brush marks all over , Really want to get a Decent gloss finish with Black Topcoat if I can.

Made myself a bench , just the right height, out of a load of Insulation boards that my son was supposed to get out of my shed 6 months ago

anyway they have come in Handy.
Gonna hunt other parts out do do, need the rear axle lifting out too.

Ive got a knack of lifting things the right way to ease the pain, but I lifted a bale of Hay today the wrong way and felt pain so had to drop it straight away, Never Mind I'm getting there slowly.

Well Got my Paint today so put one coat on, Although it is really good stuff I'm not impressed with the finish yet, Not the paint its me putting it on, Anyway might look better with the second coat, or even a third

Little bit more done today. Running out of room now, Long Story. But waiting till Horse next door goes, then I get another 12 foot by 12 added on to my Shed

If you've got an air compressor then a die grinder is the best tool for taking off rust the problem with wire brush wheels is they tend tend to polish the rust.

I use Bilt Hamber to treat it after.

Front Axle Casing Painted up and finished now, Gonna start and strip down Hubs to get them cleaned and painted. Not sure which will be easier, weather to bolt them back onto the axle to work on them or just do them out on the bench

Will check all bearings etc and replace if needed.
