Height wont be the issue, main measurement you want is from the ram to the end of the hook and see if it will reach on your car, more of an issue with the 200tdi as further back.
 
It says lifting range is 2 metres, I imagine this is from the floor to the hook at its highest point. You need to measure the height of your engine bay. I would need to lift my engine over 1 metre to get it out of my series, so I would have to use a short sling. Don't forget, when your engine leaves its mountings, the front of the car raises up a few inches.

Also, the max weight it lifts is from the shortest distance on the arm. Once extended it drops (probably to 500kgs but you need to check that).
Should be ok though :) just not for professional use I should think (as you stated) :)

I borrowed a crane and it was a professional jobbie, long as i've seen, one of the bigger ones and it only just made it in terms of distance to the bulkhead and that was at full length.
 
having had the engine out of both my TD5 and my 2.5na this year what you need to check is that when the gib/arm is extended to a position that it is centred over the engine is it still certified for at least half a tonne. it might be 2 tonnes lift but that is when the gib is in its shortest position. Just checked the spec and fully extended you are limited to 500kg when fully extended. A 2m lift height (fully extended) might be a bit close to lift the engine out of the bay especially if you have big tyres or have had a lift kit fitted. A way to avoid having to extend the length to lift the engine high enough to clear the engine compartment is to remove the front grill rad and anything else in front of the engine and then just lift it a few inches off the mounts and reverse the crane back taking the engine through the space between the wings. Not much help as you have already bought a crane but I used a silverline half tonne chain hoist for about £60 (http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Products/Lifting & Handling/Lifting/633705) and slung it over the forks of my neighbours tractor. A good tip is to get a couple of short lengths of the right weight rated chain and some shackles with screw closed pins to go from the lift points to the crane hook as doubling the crane chain from one lift point to the other is unstable and dangerous. Problem with doing that is that it further reduces your lift height (by about 20cm if you do it really tight). Another tip for getting it back into position, buy some cheap thin ratchet straps. It allows you some adjustment to get the engine in the right position to mate up which you wouldnt get from the crane alone and its cheaper than the attachment you can buy that fits to the crane hook that allows you tilt the engine by cranking a screw thread as you put it back in place but even further reduces your lift height

Ive just looked at mine in the garage and its the exact same one as your link, the lift arm itsefl folds right down and the two long legs fold right up so you gave a steel jigsaw about 18 inches diameter standing on four wheels, a small ratchet strap around the whole folded up thing is a good move.

I saw those. I don’t think they’re British made rather imported and British assembled but look decent. Sadly they won’t deliver to NE Scotland without extortionate shipping costs.

According to their wedsite they Are a UK Manufacturer.You also get a 2 year warranty with the hoist. I couldn't fault the qaulity of mines the steel box section is thicker than whats on my mates cheap ebay one.
