Hi.
I put some 285/85/16 Insa Turbo Special Tracks on my P38 last week. Well before full lock, they fouled on the plastic inner wings, front mud guards and plastic front valance. Wondering if wheel spacers will resolve the issue. Bodyshop opposite the mooring took an air saw to obvious bits, but still rub before reaching full lock. Comments very welcome please. Mike.

Wheel spacer will put more forward and backward movement on the steering it will give a bigger arc and more likely give you more clearance problems, and not the best idea on a 2.5 ton beast.

I'm always surprised on here the wheel and tyre questions...Portugal log book lists factory size for both as manufactor fitted for that model turn up for mot with anything else fail stopped at police routine check can be everyday wrong size fine...but there is a section that you can get different sizes on log book for same vehicle but only manufactor options for that vehicle but you cant just buy them if youv'e not changed log book...

Wheel spacers are for fitting wider wheels with a deeper dish than standard, to return the centre of rotation to it's correct position and retain correct steering geometry. NOT for giving clearance to oversized none standard tyres or widening track. How many times does this need saying before people take it in.

+1^^^^^^ Your wheels are not homologated for the P38 and would be illegal in France and your insuarance would be invalid.

He makes no mention of different wheels, just tyres. People do this then fit spacers to help the fouling. This alters the steering geometry and makes the vehicle dangerous to drive because steering component are more prone to catastrophic failure. Remember the little girl killed when a modified Disco lost a wheel.

More positive offset to the steering geometry can make the car hard to control in some circumstances.

This post takes me bavk to the old days when we had Mini's, wheel spacers and failed wheel bearings, flared wheel arches to match the trousers. Some idiots even thought it would be a good idea to put the wheels on "inside out" if that makes sence.

Those were the days. Grandma bought me a Mini for my 21st four years later it looked nothing like a Mini. Flattened seams, British racing green with a white roof, wide wheels with spacers to correct steering, lowered. Bored out and skimmed 1100 block and crank fitted with Hillman Imp HC pistons. Went a bit that did.
