surely common sense says that you wouldnt use the towing ball to do a snatch recovery? all that load on 2 old bolts:doh:

as for normal recovery, ive got 2 D-shackles on my front recovery points, a jate ring on the front chassis, and a jate ring on the rear chassis. would put a 2nd jate on the back for a serious recovery though, spread the load and all that (same reason i got 2 d-shackles on the front)

It's not the big bolts you have to worry about, the rest of the towing frame/brackets are held to the chassis with even smaller bolts.

Anyway, I towed an artic loaded with 15 tonnes for quarter of a mile uphill yesterday and snatched a van from out of a ditch and all relying on those two big bolts.

You could say that even smaller bolts are taking the strain because what are the axles fastened on with?
And the propshafts, held on with four small bolts were pulling 30 about tonnes all up.
Were not safe are we, elf and safety wouldn't allow it and me without a vis vest as well:doh:

it all depends on the recovery

you weren't pulling 15tons you was assisting a 15 ton load up a hill maybe pull a ton or two

if they had no engine you could say that

RobinT & a chap in a land cruiser pulled a jack knifed lorry up an hill today but before they could get him moving backwards. they had to drag the trailer sideways about 4ft to get his back end round so they could pull him backwards.

The drive wheels had burned two groves into the ice and the truck would not move, the 110 moved it, the drive wheels of the artic could not get traction, if I had stopped then the artic would have stopped so how much assistance was he giving, very little I'd say.
The initial pull to get the 28tonne gross (approx) vehicle moving and out of the ruts was done through my towing ball.
Same with the next one I pulled, it was difficult to stand up on the road and the artic was sliding sideways as I pulled him along, the Landy was not pulling straight but it did it with wheelspin at times admittedly but she did it.;)

is this were you would you fit jate rings at the rear theres a hole at the bottom of the chassis eather side were the toe bar fixs to, at the front on the passenger side theres a at the bottom of the chassis were on the drivers the steering box bolts there ?

front is where bumper bolts on
