Rear Tailgate dramas after battery change, even after calibration process - HELP

Hi guys.

Please help! Battery went flat and had a new one fitted. Followed procedure for recalibration and did not work. Had a look on the forums and see a few suggestions such as try turning ignition on and off 6 times but nothing seems to work. Any ideas as my wife is getting pretty hacked off!

It was the owners manual one which is also what I found in the landy zone.

Essentially:

1. Disconnect battery
2. Wait anything between 10 secs and 30 mins ( I have tried this 10+ times)
3. Connect up battery
4. Turn key to ignition point 2 or on and then push up button for rear window
5. Window gets to top and then the 2 beep

That is about it i am afraid. I all tried must be 20 times using the above. Also tried the ignition on and off 6 times. Only thing is the disarm of alarm. I assume that it means you have simply not locked. Either way I have tried the whole process with the car unlocked, locked with key and hence no alarm and also using fob.

I look forward to any help you may be able to give me,

I understand your problem and can empathise completely. Here goes.

Try it this way:

1. Disconnect battery.
2. Wait 1 minute
3. Connect up battery. The tailgate window will be down, or will go down.
4. Shut all doors.
5. Using the remote on the key-fob lock the doors. The alarm will be set.
6. Wait 1 minute.
7. Using the remote on the key-fob un-lock the doors. The alarm will be off.
8. Put key in ignition and turn to get warning lights on.
9. Press the up button for tail-gate window and keep it pressed until window is completely closed. There should be no 'beep' or 'buzzer'.
10. Hopefully that's it and you can go for a large Gin & Tonic or...
11. The bloody thing went 'beep' - so it's NOT it, and you should go to lie down in a darkened room waiting for someone more clever than Singvogel to come up with a better way of doing it.

This worked for me after I had started tearing out what hair I have left.

Let us know what happens - many, many people have been baffled by this LandRover quirky window.

Thanks for the procedure. Followed it to the letter and unfortunately I got the two beeps and the window went straight down again. This looks more like a visit to LR with every minute!

follow singvogels procedure again but before you press the button to raise the glass hold it in the down position for a few seconds then release the button for a second then press and hold til the glass is raised and hold the button for a couple of seconds again....
 
Is it the position sensor for the tail gate window faulty? Or perhaps open un close the tailgate, then try putting the tail gate window up.

After battery connection the Freelander is calibrating the rear window position when yer putting the tail gate window up. This is so it knows where the window is, for opening the tail gate. If it don't see it as up, then for safety it defaults to down.
 
Make sure the wiper arm is not touching the window. Manually put it on the door rubber. There is a sensor in the window mechanism that retracts the window when an obstruction (such as the wipet) gets in the way

Sorry if this reply is too late but this is first visit for a while. I can tell you i had exactly the same problem with my td4. I had disconnected the battery while doing service, at the time i knew my rear window needed attention as it would never go down fully but was unaware that the window would attempt to re-calibrate itself after re-connecting the battery so i got caught out with same problem as yours. Because i knew the window was defective beforehand i took the regulator out, cleaned runners, sprayed wd40 down cable sheathes and set all up on completion and it was fine. The main point is, if the window is not operating properly in the first place,i.e., wont operate through full travel, the calibration cant be completed.
 
I had this issue a few times. Open the tailgate fully, but close the latch (so the car thinks the door is closed) and try calibrating. It may just be the friction against the rubber seal :)
 
Sorry for the delay one and all but I wanted to thank you all for ideas, thoughts etc. I am pleased to say that the problem has been fixed. Took the panel off and the cable loom had fallen under the window when trying to open so not achieving full travel. As a result the window would not calibrate. Seems that the window had never worked properly as it goes all the way down now which I had not realised that it was meant to do! Cheers guys.....
