rear mounted rad

im thinking of mounting the rad to the back of the truck so i can fit the winch as far back as poss.....will the water pump cope?

has anyone done this and what do peeps fink of the cooling issue? ive got two twin speed fans to fit on there.....

its a v8 defender trayback, so plenty of room....

am not a landy expert by any means but they is one near me that has twin rads at the back so it must work

Yeah should be fine mate, its moving the water at the same pressure and at the same speed, just further, so will make no differance. i know of a couple of lads in norway that run they're track day cossies with the rad in the back absolutely fine. Rather expensive on the hosing side though!!!

you'll have to have yer fans running all the time unless you can mount the rad directly in the air flow (which is why they are normally front mounted)

not a prob to run the fans all the time....im only using the truck for challenge events, so it wont be going fast enough to get a natural air flow over it, and the winch and oil coler would be in front, so it seems a logical way forward?

Ii've seen a few that have some form of air scoopy thing mounted on the cab roof to direct air flow across the rad - that can only help

ear, sounds like a good plan accherlee. shun't be a prob with pumpage, if yer pump goes quick then just get a bigger un!

You could run an electric water pump like wot we used to do with funny car drag racing. Loads more flow and less drag on the motor. Just make sure your electrics are up to the job.

Only spent about 30 seconds so there will be others. Remember you get what you pay for so cheap is not always the best.

The one we used came from the states and it is quite common for the street race boys do do this mod.

Here is a write up on leccy pumps - it is probably going to be the way forward on road cars pretty much like the electric power steering pumps now common on many road cars. Hope this is useful.

forgot about a expansion tank, so mounted a rrc metal one on there, hoping it will stand up to more than the plastic one...also started to work out where the bits fit, just leaves the ground anchor when ive made it...started making the rock sliders too....
