Rear Diff - rebuild / replace?

Hi All,
I was changing the diff oils at the weekend on my Utility HD 110 td5 and found some large metal chunks stuck to the drain plug magnet from the rear diff.

I don't recall any nasty noises or abuse being given to the drive train in the last year or so since I last changed the diff oil. Truck drives fine etc.

Can any of you clever people id the chunks? Looks like Crown wheel to me?
Odd that there is no unusual noise from rear end though??

thanks, yeah looks a bit odd and agree - it does look like a weld on closer inspection. Just had a look at the many (many many) (this was an ex E.ON utilities machine) pages of service history that came with the vehicle which I bought 5 years ago and there is mention of work being done to the rear diff. --" remove N/S hub stub axle and clear out Rear axle and diff casing..." this work was done at ~78000 miles in 2009 - shes now got a 134000 on the clock.

Given that there is no noise and its likley its been running like this for some time whats your opinion on leaving it alone or replace it?

It may be remnants from whatever happened 5 years ago and maybe they didn't clear everything out when they fixed it?
 
Actually thats a good point re not clearing it out the old damaged metal. I guess without actually pulling the cover off and having a look I'll not know for sure.
I fitted the magnetic X-Plugs mid 2014 during a diff oil change (no broken metal then) and I've done one other diff oil change between then and now so I guess its possible that the bits have only worked their way to the magnet since the last change. I'm assuming its not the new stage2 map and intercooler (added in the last month) thats torn up the diff :D. Shes pretty heavy with the hydraulics etc and needed a bit more ooomph!
 
Think I would probably be tempted to have a look, if it were breaking up you wouldn't want debris that size floating around as there is the chance to could get between a couple of teeth and lock the axle up leaving you stranded, worst case it happens at motorway speeds and you poo yourself:eek::oops:

Are the magnetic drain plugs new i.e fitted last time you changed the diff oil? it may be that the bits have been inside the case from a previous problem and luckily not caused any issues and been caught by your new magnetic plugs.

i fitted the mag plugs about couple of oil changes ago. I'll need to inspect it I think just to be sure...
