hi there ive got a problem with my diff , how do I identify the ratios in the rear diffs? the reason im asking this , ive got several rear axles and diffs which im trying to make a good diff from 2 diffs , ive put the center stem out of one and the pinion wheel (think that's what its called) from another together and they feel like they match up but I cant find any numbers which correspond together? ive seen some engraved shiny 3 didget numbers on the pinion wheel and stems ,, is that number any help to me? any help would be great from you guys thanks ryan

you cant mix crown wheels and pinions up they are matched together ,there are a couple of numbers etched on pinion one identifies which crown wheel pinion goes with as is also etched on it and the other is height above or below nominal used when setting pinion height ,4.7 pinion has 10 teeth ,3.5 pinion has 13 also the carrier caps should be marked beforeremoval as they are not interchangeable from side to side or to another housing

so even though they run smoothly together there not going to work together? the one off my landy which has bearing issues looks identical to the one im pairing up with? i.e same amount of teeth and looks to be the same angle on the curv?

Listen to james they are made as matched sets you mix and match and you will have whine and noise from them, also when you hammer on it the pinion will try to climb out of the ring gear and will have breakage

crown wheel and pinons will interchange fit wise ,but wont last long running , they are matched together and need to stay like that

ok il put the sets back together , thanks for clearing that up lads , il have to get a bearing pressed onto the pinion , can I get a bearing for any bearing shop or will it have to be a dealer part only?

are the bearings in all landy diffs the same size i.e inner same size as other inners and outer the same as other outer ones? (sorry for all q's im just trying to get my head around it)
