ive just got a second hand rear bumper from a scrappy and it needs a touch up in a couple of places.
i dont want to hammerite it.

i ideally want to get the original black paint from some where.

does anyony know where i can get the paint from or is there an equivalent to it? or anyone know the paint code?

help much appreciated

^ +1
i also find the 3m body schultz stuff works rather well after a bit of a wire brushing/rubbity rubbing session.

I use black bitumen paint as it can be brushed straight on after a quick wire brush and dries smooth and after a couple of weeks it go to a satin finish

As a straight like for like, I have used trade black satin spray,as per JM,often.Especially on the door surrounds on D1s. I dont know that there WAS a standard across the range and years,I have found several different looking and acting paints on bumpers. But as ever,I stand to be corrected.....

(counts under breath ,see if I get to 10 before I AM corrected....)

My trick is remove all rust, smooth off under coat, then I use a tin of smoothrite by hammerite, but before I spray it, thin it with one third thinners (cellulose), mix it well spray lightly and build up, great finish then leave it for two days to harden, really hard gloss dulls down to satin.

hammerite do a satin black also which can be handy for long lasting repairs

but as above your average satin black aerosol is the dogs for black trim etc on cars. hycote is one of my all time favourites, the one with the picture of the escort cossie on the front. that whole paint range is mega.

cheers

I suspect the original is powered coated rather than painted. Hence they deteriorate so quickly when the coating cracks.

im agreeing on the powder coat front actually, i remember years back peeling my back bumper coating off before giving it a paint.

thats the problem with powder coat: it doesnt rub down so you have to get it all off before you can get a reasonable paint finish!

and it will be all over your trousers every time you open door ,use bodyline trade satin aerosol after sanding and zinc priming looks original then do front window frames etc

No,
Dries and goes satin/matt in it's finish.
When it gets chipped it can be touch up with a brush and after a couple of weeks you can't see where it's touched up.
No primer,no sanding, brushed on, no brush marks and its cheap.
Wipe over with diesel to re-soften the top layer to remove marks or chips.
No poncing around :)

Spence, you must be using much better bitumen paint than I get mate !But since I buy it fro Trago Mills house of discount stuff they found in a skip....thats not surprising
