Your seal does not go anywhere near the rusty back.

It sit behind the bearing which sits against the back, shiny part of the shaft.

You don't need to change anything apart from the oil seal from what I can see from your pic.

ftc4785 isnt an oil seal its a grease seal there is another method of stopping oil reaching hub bearings ,300 tdi use a seal in stub axle and machined surface of half shaft ,earlier outer seal in hub,or rtc3511 oil seal in inner hub

OK, FTC4785 was what was in originaly, when I bought the car, there was no leaks untill I had rear discs renewed then it started leaking, so changed seal for FTC4785.
Is this the wrong one?, Or should it be replaced for rtc3511 instead, or does rtc3511 go in aswell as FTC4785 ??
Thanks for your help.

as i said ftc4785 is a grease seal it has no garter spring like rtc3511 oil seal ,originally oil was let into hub so they used rtc3511 to keep oil from leaving hub ,later grease was used in hubs and oil was resticted so it didnt enter wheel bearings so ftc4785 was fitted as it didnt need to keep oil in, yours has probably just had wrong seal fitted in the past,
