RRC 1991 V8 auto.
Hello all,
We have had this motor for 2.5 years and it is in generally very good condition. It is standard, and not modified at all.
I got a message from my wife who was going out in it today to say, as she left home, she could hear a "grinding noise" and returned home.
I get home and have a look around. I cannot see anything so take it for a drive. As I turn out of our gateway (sharp right), I hear the noise and look at the rear (offside) wheel and see it has moved forward and is catching on the rear of the sill under the rear door
As I reverse very slowly, the wheel moves back and this time to a point beyond where it should be.
I have a look underneath, and I see this (see attachment). It looks like my offside front suspension link bracket (is that the right name?) has rotted though.
This is a bit of a shock as it only passed its MOT last month, with no advisories on the body (I did have one on the rear shocks: connected?)
My questions are: is this a big job to get this fixed? Should the MOT centre have picked up on this during the test?
Also, is the rear axle at risk of "coming off"?!? We like at the end of a 0.5 mile dirt track and I doubt very much a breakdown recovery vehicle could get down here. Could I drive this very carefully for 0.5 mile to the top of the track?
My wife loves this car and normally it is very good and reliable.
Thanks!
