I fitted new discs, calipers and pads to my 110 TD5.
Since then there's a loud tinny rattling when l am on anything other than a smooth road.
As soon as l apply even light pressure to the brake pedal the rattle stops.
So what did l do wrong? I fitted the anti rattle shims/springs and put copper grease on everything.
The shims had a C-shaped hole and l wondered if l have fitted these the wrong way round? There were no instructions.

Iirc theres two type of shim the weedy spring type which are carp and the bent bits of tin that the pins hold onto the top of the pads, these are actually quite good, if the pin was easy to fit youve done it wrong!

I've got the tin ones that are held in by the pins, it did all go together very easily. I will take the wheels off and have a look.

I took it apart and the pads do have a bit of play in the calipers, also the pins are quite loose.
Calipers and pads are Britpart XS. I contacted the supplier who are a LR lndy and they told me l should not have used any copper grease at all, l should have fitted the pads "dry".
Could that be the problem? The rattling is not acceptable, the LR sounds like an old milk float.

I always fit truck pads dry, a little copaslip on the ends of car pads but I think even thats not needed.

Are you saying you have the tin shim type and the light spring type on the same calliper?

I have the shims between disc and caliper piston.
And also the coil springs on the pins (not the metal type springs that push on the pads)
I thought the shims were anti squeal and the springs were for anti rattle.
I read that if you stretch the springs they work better?
But the pads are not tight in the calipers. Maybe l encountered Britpart "quality". I'll call them this morning.

See my thread, same problem. Checked with Mintex, they do an anti-rattle clip which fits between the crossbar and the pad. I'm going to try them out.

Thanks for the information, l could not find the Mintex part though, can you provide a link, or details of this part? I will try it as well.

The pads came with new pins and springs. I even fitted washers on each end of the springs to stop them going into the holes in the pads.

I have found a solution to this, that's easy to do. I read it somewhere on an old post about 110 rear brake rattle.
This applies to the TD5 110 rear brakes when fitted with the pins and coil springs. The MBA951 won't fit this version
For other versions it's as suggested above, type MBA951 as an Ebay search.
What you need for the coil spring/pin version is a VOLVO 240/260 anti rattle spring kit.
Land Rover Centre Huddersfield sell the kit for £8 including postage.
Discard the useless anti rattle coil springs and fit the wire springs from the Volvo kit. Use the Land Rover pins, discard the ones that come in the Volvo kit.
If your pads are brand new you may need to cut a small slot in the anti squeal shims (if fitted) to locate the Volvo springs, as the rear of the new outer pad sits very close to the caliper and the spring won't quite fit with the shim in there as well. It's clear when you look at it.

Hey presto....no more rear pad rattle!!

Any chance of a link to the kit you mention above, it sounds like I need one, as my brakes are still shrieking after 2 weeks.
And in answer to your pad rattle, mine stopped doing it as the pads wore in, the new springs did nothing, and I even replaced the disks which didn't help, maybe anti rattle springs will sort yours.
