Ok, so as some will know I'm restoring the old bus to its former glory. The inside is now like brand new from top to bottom looks and smells like a new car :pLast night we went on a trip to the spray shop and got final prices and times blah blah blah.. But on the way back I wondered if I should have the door handles sprayed to match the wing mirrors and body work. What are your thoughts on this?

Well being colour blind and the world's foremost expert on these vehicles as you know (stop tittering at the back) I much prefer the door handles to match everything. I think it goes back to my youth when all I wanted was a car with colour coded bumpers because all I could afford was a Fiesta that was lucky to have bumpers!!! As I've got older I like everything to be colour coded. Just my two penneth :)
 
I think it would look really good but cant find any evidence of them being coded from new. Even the Autobiographys don't have them nor the linleys Ive seen...
 
Its not going to cost any more to have them done the guy doing it said it would actually help his as he wouldn't have to remove them...
 
I personally wouldn't want them sprayed,if you have rings or the missus uses it the paint will get all scratched over time and end up looking dull,hope your paint guy is removing the bumpers and mirrors for painting to do it right
 
I'm of the school that thinks cars should be finished in Hammerite.

I had a Rover SD1 in pink Hammerite once. It was a looker.

Bet you used to stand next to it with one hand on the door frame and the other one on your hip trying to look as butch as possible. :D:D
 
Yes he's taking bumpers and mirrors off going to help with this bit :) And far from "slap dash".... (You know what I cant even be bothered to reply to that haha)
 
Non painted handles don't take to being painted well at all. The Range Rover's aren't plastic but are glass filled polymer which is well near impossible to get a lasting finish. In my armoury I even have a special plastic refinish coating and that flakes off. I do this kind of stuff for a living. ;)

I have sprayed a lot of cars in my time and spraying over the door handles and the door skin without bothering to take the handles off is a fools errand. Doing that could not be described as anything else. :p:D

Correct. Wearing my flares....

Truth is, it was an evil thing that had been burnt out (hence the pink Hammerite) and fitted with an overbored V8 and a couple of turbos that melted the paint on the bonnet.

I had never heard a backfire until I heard this thing go off.

That's what I was after thank you... my door handles arnt that bad to be honest. But just thought they would stand out like a sore thumb against the new paint. thanks for the input :)

Properly treated with something like forever black they will look well, it's what's known as contrast. Black handles and your new pink paint job will be full of contrast. :D:D:D

also they will need plastic primer or the paint will flake off quickly.

the other thing is, that the handles have a recess for the mechanism to slide through, so you will either have to take the handles apart to have them primed and painted and masked up so they dont gum up or have a wierd cross over from paint/primer to non paint..

there's a reason why no one's colour coded them !
 
I got tired of trying to keep my handles looking good so fitted a set of color coded covers for them. I doubt that many people will ever spot them but I think it makes the car look a lot smarter - when it's clean.
Mind you I've got colour coded bumpers, rad grill and mirrors.

Trim gel applied repeatedly works reasonably well. Plastic primers need a roughened surface to adhere to and the polymer used in RR door handles doesn't lend itself well.
