I have a question about the factory spec Westfalia tow-bar electrics fitted to my car. My car seems to have all the right ECU boxes in the side cubby but only has a 7 pin socket. I want to fit a 13 pin euro socket with all the pins functioning as they should. I don't want to buy a new (or S/h) box to tow bar loom as they are stupidly expensive. I am an experienced with electrics so I am hoping someone can give me the pin out diagram/list for the ECU which would enable me to make the loom myself. The issue is not the tow bar end-that's easy-but which of the empty pins at the ecu plug do I connect the extra wires to.

Hope that makes sense.

Can you use a conversion 7 - 13 pin adapter ?
I bought all my kit from PF Jones, they may sell just the wiring without all the ECUs and relays if that is any use.
There is limited information in Rave Electronics manual but I can't see the outputs from the ECU

Thank you. I could use a converter but that would leave the additional pins non functioning. Similarly I could also just swap the 7pin socket for a 13 pin one (its easy enough). I'll have a look at PF Jones. What is the Rave Electronics manual? I'm new to this.

I think I'm making some progress here. I now have a pin out list for the trailer control module. Hurray! I now need to work out the best way to provide power to the power supply pins for fridge and battery charging (old style 12s pins or Euro 13 pins 9 & 10). [GALLERY=]

The diagram came from an Australian Range Rover forum.

So yesterday I managed to complete the task and upgrade to 13 pin electrics. It was actually very simple. The only wire missing from the 15 pin plug at the trailer ECU was the reversing lights. The wires for the power supply pins for fridge and battery charging in a caravan can be found in the white 12 pin connector for the tow bar loom.

There is Green Yellow wire (ignition switched)
A Red Yellow wire (constant live 15 amp fuse 4 rear fuse box)
A Blue Red wire (constant live 20mp fuse 6 rear fuse box)

Use one permanent live to connect direct to pin 9 of your trailer socket (I used the 20 amp)
The other permanent live is switched via a relay (as per the factory kit) switched by the Green Yellow ignition switched wire providing a (15amp in my case) protected ignition switched live to pin 10 of the trailer socket.

All additional earths including the relay were connected to the earth point in the spare wheel well

As I had a relay in my stash and the connectors and wires the only thing I had to buy was the 13 pin socket. Total price £9.99. A little better than £150 which was the cheapest I could buy a new 13 pin Westfalia harness.
