Hi All, am new to this forum but was on LRO before it shutdown.

Anyway so i have a 6.0L Chevy LQ4 V8 and a Auto box that it came with (4L80E i think) that i am looking to put in a Range Rover Classic. I have recently bought a 93 RRC that had been sat for 18 years. Thinking of using a LT230 bolted up to the Auto box with an adapter (have seen a few available online) and then just need to sort out the axles.

I will keep this forum updated with my progress but it will probably take a while as there is a lot involved on this project.

I'd be concerned at the structural condition of a classic that's been standing for so long, is such a momentous project viable?
 
mechanically its the same, only differences will be if yours is a soft dash
Its a hard dash but it has the 200 TDi that is not covered in the Haynes manual, but that doesn't matter as I am going to replace the engine. So as long as the rest is the same thats fine.

It does have rust in places but I will fix it up, my plan is to get the body off and see how the chassis is, if it comes to it i could replace the chassis. The worst rust is on the tailgate but that seems to be common on these.

wait till you see the sills, footwells, boot floor and side panels, inner wheel arches and rear cross member. maybe the A and B pillar bottoms.. but aside from that.... should be sound
 
I think @zen has been here before but I don't think he has logged in in ages. Not since the forum changed, now I think about it. His old threads must be on here somewhere though. Sure he dropped a 6l lump in a Classic once.
 
I would have thought the shear weight of an iron V8 sitting on the front suspension would be the biggest drawback, as regards the handling characteristics.
 
Overfinch fitted the 350 small block and it was known as the 570I and it had no issues whatsoever.
They also fitted a 6.3 383ci v8 in later hard dash classics.

Even the P38 got the GM treatment with a 300+hp 6.3 known as the 630r!!


The classics had a 700r4 4spd, which i believe is closely related to the GM turbo 400

As for fitting i imagine it wouldn't be too difficult but as the above have said the structure of the car will have to be assessed first.

The Wiring might also be a mare to do..
