Then, from what I can see, but now can't, personally, confirm until after the New Year, she must've just slipped in before the new laws. Someone else might be able to check before then , but I was of the belief that from 2012 on, run flats must be used in conjunction with tpms. Perhaps for the very reason you deacribe with your daughter and passengers.

Dunno, but my daughter is quite practical, was taught how to off-road in defenders in the military as part of her job, blue light qualified, front line war zone tours of duty under her belt. Far better driver than me for sure, and far better than most blokes too.

But still didnt notice a flat 41GH2D+fYzL._SY355_.jpg

Just confirms why tpms is needed with them.

Yer you gotta see the funny side. Made that post in response to the earlier one which was derogatory to lady drivers but forgot to add the quote. Its past my bedtime n tired now.

Please forgive me for this but.... are "run-flats" really aimed at lady drivers who might struggle to change a tyre on the roadside?
Never had or even looked for such a tyre myself. A flat is a flat, deal with it; spares are there for a reason.

Some modern cars don't have spare tyres, not even the 'space saver' type just cans of squirty stuff that's supposed to seal the puncture & partially inflate the tyre. Probably OK if you have a small puncture but no use for anything bigger - plus some places will refuse to repair a tyre that's had that stuff used.
My eldest's Renault 225 has a perfectly good full size spare wheel well but only comes with 2 cans of Renault branded squirty stuff. So on one occasion when he checked the tyre pressures & one of the valves broke off it was a problem!

Had a look it's called the crown. Every day is a school day :) ;) I thought run flats had to be on a vehicle with tpms , so that you know there is an issue?

I understood the same... a car without TPMS cannot have runflats. as the wall supports the vehicle there's no visual cue for lost pressure

I'm sure she's not bothered by anyone commenting on her driving. She knows what she is capable of and would probably be the first to laugh about missing the flat.

You nearly got away with that one . Naughty, naughty Dan. I may struggle now, with only one arm that works as it should, but can assure you changjng a tyre is not difficult. If you think it a struggle, wave down a passing female , to give you a hand ;)

Addit: It wouldnt be the first time I've changed a tyre for a guy , whilst he kindly gave instructions but did bugger all of the lifting  Some women can't change a tyre and guess what........ neither can a whole load of men!

Hmmm - now not so sure they are run flat tyres, might just be low profile (195/45). Will check tomorrow.

Surely you mean changed a wheel? Difficult to change a tyre without the right equipment and even more difficult to inflate a tubeless tyre without a good compressor.

I offer my sincere apologies.
I shall chastise myself in an appropriate fashion.

See @Wimblowdriver 's post re daughter's car. She must've nipped i just before law changed.
Fairly sure now that my daughters tyres are not run flat type. Bit of searching indicates that cars fitted with TPMS from new on or after 1st Jan 2012 are subject to having them MOT tested. From November 2014 all new cars are supposed to have them fitted. (not got this from any official source however). It does appear that reputable tyre retailer/fitters will not repair run flat tyres on the basis that they have a very limited run flat range before serious but undetectable structural damage my occur. In other words running flat to the tyre fitters is safe but wrecks the tyre so fit a new one.

Another new feature that was not needed that costs the motorist a bloody fortune.
