hi there,

i have been meaning to ask this for a while but keep forgetting!

if it has been raining overnight or whatever, i have the usual puddle in the footwell cos there isnt much bulkhead there, but... when i go to move away, LOADS of water pours in from the top of the door somewhere, all over the passenger seat.. which dosent go down well with the gf! i have pulled the headlining down to try and see where it is coming from but couldnt see anything!
any ideas? any common areas for pooling water?

Had the same Karlos - turned out to be water seeping through some rivets in the roof whcih I thought was just condensation, which somehow 'accumulated' until I drove and then breaked

Ended up sealing the rivets with metal epoxy putty which cured

Now the puddle in the footwell - have that too and drives me nuts!
 
I had the same trouble, cured it by smearing silicon sealant along the outside roof channels, you cannot see it but it works a treat
 
Yep - did the bits in the middle inside and out - think some roof constructions are different, but basically wherever I found a seam!

As mine is white, white sealent was the order of the day:D

Haven't done anything with the drains on the side, but do recall a thread about sealing those as well if required
 
ha ha mine does the same, if i jet wash my landy its doesnt happen but if its been raining over night its like someone has turned on a tap for a few seconds when i drive off...

So is it headlining off and seal all the seams??? and the outside roof channel??

I wouldnt think so - its in a section entitled "Common Faults and Questions Have a look here to see if you can solve questions that you might have."

and there is a search facility - even a search this forum option. I cant see how having it a sticky as well would help, because peeps wouldnt find it as a sticky either :rolleyes:.
 
When I did mine any cracks in the paint on the roof join (running across the roof) I cleaned out and then ran a bead of sealant across and with a wet cloth tidied it up like you would doing a bathroom sink. Cant see water getting in via the gutters themselves?
You may get to test it this week.... after sealing the roof joins my problem was similar when I parked on my drive reversing it the slope of the drive meant water was running towards the front and the gutters empty into/onto the front door seals and should run off. If the seal is worn or split the water can find its way into the footwell. I also noticed water got trapped in the seal and when the door was opened a fair bit more would run in.

I parked mine so in heavy rain water would run off the back... the footwells stayed dry adding weight to the door seal theory... I replaced the seal and adjusted the door slam so it was a tight seal and that sorted it. One to think about if you still have issues.
 
MrJC you've got me thinking dangerous i know! my passenger door were the said water runs in from doesnt shut without a good slam, as if it dropped slightly am now thinking this could be the problem...
The seals looks ok but if its not a tight fit mmmm food for thought..
how do you adjust the door slam without sounding to ignorant???
 
Easiest way is to move the striker plate (the bit on the door pillar that the door lock catch locates onto) in slightly - think just 2 cross head screws hold it in place

Problem is that does little for the area that possibly leaks the most - the seal by the door hinges

Wondering whether to add some extra sealant strip to mine - there are areas where I can see daylight at the bottom front corner of the door where there is a gap between the seal fixed to the bottom of the door and the footwell

Like it on both sides, so have concluded that if the wind/rain is in a certain direction, it must run down the outside of the door by the hinges, and then make its way in.

Keep meaning to look at someone else's Landy to see if the same
 
Hmmm mine seems to leak in more when the front is up hill slightly. I will try daubing everything up anyway tho, good place to start. then il adjust the door.

I kno from testing, that the water in my foot well is coming from very tiny holes in the bulkhead. From the outside you can barely see them, but inside is much worse. When I pour water on the windscreen it gets in through the holes and works it's way into the footwell. Some patches should sort that tho, fingers crossed!
