Hi guys.

Newbie here, although not new to Range Rovers as this is our 2nd P38.

Decided to replace the bushes on the front radius control arms as they are worn and I can move the arm on the bushes. I have cut the old bushes out, but I now have the issue of getting the new ones in. I am keeping it standard and have a set of genuine bushes, BUT I cannot find any specialist, or main dealer that has the tool (LRT-60-004) that is required to push these in.

Does anyone either have a tool I can borrow/hire or know of a garage within driving distance of S Wales who has the tool and can fit the bushes?

Many thanks for your help.

The OD of new bushes is around 61.25 mm the hole it goes in is 60 mm so you need a tapered constrictor bush to compress the bush as it is pressed through it into the radius arm. I made my tool and mandrels from Micarta did the job without problems.

I had to replace the ball joints & bushes on my P38 & decided to buy a Universal Ball joint kit from eBay.
Although quite expensive at approx £80, if meant all of the bushes could be changed on the vehicle instead if removing them to take to a press.
Worth considering in the long run.

If you do a search , you can buy a unit of ebay not the lr one but will do the job i am led to believe

I have hunted eBay and other than a genuine tool being sold from Germany for £140 delivered, I can find nothing. Do you have a link to the tool you are referring to?

You would have some fun trying to replace the metalastic bushes in the radius arms with a universal ball joint tool. The words BALL JOINT TOOL should give a clue to is designed useage. :D:D:D

I have taken the plunge and ordered the special tool. Just need a friendly garage with a press and job done. Will then sell the tool to recoup some of its cost. Or maybe if there was some demand I could hire it out for a small fee;)

For what it's worth, £140 is nothing compared to what many people on here spend on diagnostic kit and then generously allow other members to use FOC. Where's you community spirit?! :)

I was thinking of a small fee to cover postage mainly. But I doubt I will keep it as not something I am likely to have to replace again so will probably sell it on.
I don't have diagnostic equipment I can use on other peoples RRs, but I have for other cars and have helped out quite few people with no many changing hands. Often doing the job to fix their car, again for free. But that just costs time which I can afford. :)

Wammers....You are correct as always, but as I was replacing all ball joints as well as fitting polybushes, the universal tool served both purposes.
Although not ideal, it did the job.

Better than nothing. Getting the proper bushes out is not the problem getting the new ones in is. I am old fashioned, don't like poly bushes. :);)

I made the mistake of getting the old bushes out before realising that they are not the same as the Classic's. Being stuck without the proper tool I improvised by warming the bush in hot water, constricting one end with two large, well lubricated Jubilee clips, then pressed the bush from the other end through the clips into the arm. Once you get it moving don't stop !!
