Well here goes! I just bought a 98 disco not long ago. The factory radio was locked out so I figured instead of paying for the unlock code I would put in a new kenwood So I had a hook up for my sirius. Anyway, bought the adaptor harness, and had everything hooked up by a friend that works at a local sound shop. We got everything in and there is some crazy noise coming out of the speakers. So of course we start trying different options to knock out the noise....ground loop isolators, capacitors, grounded the engine to chassis, regrounded alternator, even went as far as running new lines for power and ground directly from battery. And no luck. There is a whine when the truck is off but when it is running the noise headache material! Anyone ever have this problem and get it fixed. I see alot of posts on here about radio noise but no posts from anyone who has ever fixed the problem. Everyone cant be driving around with a stock stereo. Please help! I think the next step is going to be a good set of plug wires that are insulated well. and hooking a spare speaker up to the headunit before the signal goes to the amp trying to rule out the amp.

if you've got the hi-line stereo system there's a seperate amp under the passenger seat - so you cant just put any old head unit in to replace the factory one - there are companies that supply head units that are compatible - just do a search on google.

don't know why you'd want to remove the factory unit - I've got the Harmon Kardon 12 speaker system with the Pioneer head Unit & it produces the best sound I've ever heard in any motor I've ever been in ;)

EXACTLY......H/K system with an AFTERMARKET head unit. The same thing I'm trying to do.,

no - the headunit in mine is the FACTORY fitted unit - sorry - it's an 'Alpine' not a Pioneer (no idea where I got 'pioneer 'from) but as far as I'm concerned the sound quality is superb

it's the R990 btw

To be perfectly honest...I dont know what that means. What do you mean when you say try tuning away from radido 1? This whole thing is a big mess. I am hearing noise when the lights are on. when i close the door and the light fades off. is there some big short somewhere or what. As for the factory amp. I checked under the seat and no go. I was told it might be under the passenger side dash on the firewall.... Before i rip that out is it possible.

It's behind yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. :D

i got same problem sextons wanted £300 to do rewire so have started to do complete rewire myself it is the amp that is conflicting with the one in the new radio so you need to find the amp and get rid not found mine yet so will look under passenger seat now

have you tired attenuating the output of yer head as you are likely to be overloading the external amps inputs ? - also try impedance matching ?
