Quick question about toe in/out

Hi all quick question
The inside tread of my front tyres are wearing faster than the outside
So i done the string test around the tyres and with the driver side front and back tyres inline the passenger side tyre was pointing outwards like this ....

by about 12mm .is this to much ?

As above looks like tracking is out a wee bit ;)

Find a good place that does 4 wheel alignment that will sort it
 
not sure on a 90 a place near me does it im taking my disco in the next couple weeks ( seen them doing other 4x4 )
 
check all 4 wheels are running straight ,adjust so fronts match the rears ,if rears out by much to the vehicle youd need to look at bushes etc

If you plan on trying to do the alignment yourself roughly or near enuff, or taking it somewhere , you might want to check to see how corroded your track rod ends are , a bit of penetrating fluid before hand and a wire brush may help. :D

As we're all aware, all older Land Rovers have live axles front and rear, so with the exception of tracking errors caused by worn panhard rod or Watts linkage bushes there's nothing to be adjusted on the rear axle.
Laser tracking systems these days do involve fitting sensors to all four wheels so that when the steering wheel is set to its central position, the wheels should be running parallel.
Once this initial setting is found, then the small adjustments can be made to the track rod to set the toe-in or toe-out to the manufacturer's specifications.
Generally, rear wheel drive vehicles are set for a toe-in and front wheel drive vehicles for a toe-out. It's usually set that way to compensate for any slack or wear there might be in the various linkages and it depends on whether the front wheels are being pushed along or they're pulling the vehicle.
I believe that Land Rover Defender requires a toe-out of 0 - 2 mm to be set.

Off the ground so they can move freely. Looks like you've found the source of the problem with that massive toe out. Did the handling feel strange at all? While you're at it, you might want to think about replacing the track rod ends, as they do wear out and they're not overly expensive.

Yes mate 100%
I had it tracked about 2 years ago only notested it with my new tyers (6 months old)
Ive done lots of motorway miles in that time
Cant say i notested any handling probs
I will adjust then go on a motorway run c ive anything changes:)
