Turners quote circa £1600 including VAT for a top hat linered exchange bare block.
If our 4.6 turns out to need more work, then I'll go for one of them, but only as I can do the strip and rebuild here.
If you have to pay a garage to do the job, it starts to look a bit of a millstone, but as
@supapete says, what are you going to do otherwise?
If the basic car is good, then take a 10-year view as we do, if you throw £3k at it and it lasts you for 10 years, then it's money reasonably well spent, you can't take a short term view when spending that sort of money. Our total spend on the Rangie so far is just over £1K including the purchase price.
Our Discovery V8 has done nearly 100K miles under our ownership in 8 years, another couple of years and we will reckon it has paid its way.
