question about series engine

Hi everyone
I was chatting to a freind the other day as i wished to make my series run on unleded and he told me that as it was a military engine that it already had a hardend head. If anyone knows anything about the engine being unleded or otherwise could you let me know, the engine no is 525183.
Any thoughts would be apriciated, cheers

Just reset the timing and deal with replacing the exhaust valve seat when they have started to wear out.

Most valveseat recession with unleaded fuel occurs when the engine is working hard at high revs or high speed.....like motorways or contant towing. Unless this is the life that your Series leads then there isn't anything to worry about.

If you run on Unlead keep a eye on the tappet gap closing up, this is a sign of valve seat regression.

hi andyb66 thanks for your reply, I used to live in poole but now live in france but im back over next weekend just wondered if you had anything land rover for sale that may intrest me as im so close.
p.s my dad used to belong to scor back in the 80s and 90s called pete hatcher had a series 11a 88 and a classic 3.5

Interestingly another way to assist unleaded problems seems to be to throw a little SAE 30 engine oil into the petrol. Just a little mind ...

About half of one percent seems to be good, so that would be about one and half fluid ounces per gallon of petrol, or about one cc per litre if you use those tricky foreign measures.

Apart from any other effect, the engine will run better, and it appears from basic trials and just a little experience that it does reduce valve seat regression quite a lot.
