yours ain;t an 83 though is it?

had one (83 4 door)same electrics (as good as anyway)as 1970 bar the gauges..use the early wiring dia for "late" range rover with auto in the haynes "big" manual without suppment..its correct.

V5 says first reg 27-09-1985 but who knows how long before that it was actually built. Then again the V5 is so accurate that the engine number is 'Not Known'. As to it's history, it languished in the last owner's widow's garage for ten years, until she too died. Nothing known prior to that

Not sure what you mean by the 'Haynes BIG manual'.
I have two ... both with a suplement section.

ISBN 1 85010 189 2 Range Rover 1970 to 1985 All models 3528cc
ISBN 1 85960 274 6 Range Rover 1970 to Oct 1992 (up to K reg) petrol.

The only diagram with a 20 way fuse box seems identical in both, with the same ommissions and anomolies.

Is there another one I should be looking for? I do have several CD manuals, skimmed but not yet explored for wiring diagrams.

As mentioned, I don't actually have any current problems with it apart from the carbs need tickling.

Ooh ****e ... am I gonna regret saying that? Mot is over due.

Johnny.

[Zen - yours ain;t an 83 though is it?]

No it's an '85. Sorry, Norseman's mention of an '85 knocked me off course.
Looking back I see the original query was about an '83. Sorry if I've misled anyone, and hope you're getting somewhere Bedfordri.

Thanks for the E-bay pointer to the 'Big Book'. It may well be a better option for me too. I'll have to further explore my CD versions first to see what's covered on them.

Is this the same 'Big Book' you refer to Zen ? I note that this does include a supplement, where as you mentioned one 'without supplement' .

I have a horrible feeling it may be the battery as suggested by someone here.

I noticed that the ignition lights dimmed when the gearbox was put into reverse , I suppose that the battery would read twelve volts when it came off a quick charge because that was what was in there , it just had no amp hours.
If it is I will buy a kill switch ,but not like the key one I had on a Series 3 which caught fire.

It is still on charge and will try tomorrow.

The starter relay is indeed by the washer bottle ,the relay that is clicking is behind the steering column ,it is not the flasher relay as I found that , it is either a relay from the starter inhibitor from the autobox or more likely from the brake check circuit.

the "big" haynes manual is much thicker than latter, mine has no supplement, but some do...

much better than later,it actually shows you how to service parts rather than just say reger to specialist etc..

I'd appreciate it if you would quote the ISBN number from your manual Zen. It should be shown on the first Title page and it is often on the back cover, but not always.

Just a thought Bedfordri ... I had a sneaky battery leakage fault on my Mk2 Jag. Turned out to be a shorted out rectifier diode in it's (retro fitted) alternator.

Shoot, it's only money ... I've just ordered the Leyland one on EBay.

I notice there's a few copies of Dave Pollard's "RR restoration manual" on offer too (which may well be cheaper on Amazon). Anyone know if it's worth buying?

My Classic is in pretty good nick, so I'm not looking at a full renovation ... just wondering if it has useful info on maintenance, 4 barrel and/or LPG rigs.

also not much in it on the 4 door- from memory just the noral haynes trick of adding a little bit in at the end which covers the majority of the cars

its just an advert for nationwide trim and others really..worth a read at a 5er..

my manual has no isbn....no front pages etc...well used!!lives under the car seat just in case..

Now I'm a little intreaged ...

I have a Haynes manual for 1970 to 1985
and a Haynes manual for 1970 to 1992
both of these have a duff wiring diagram for my 85 wagon.

Just seen one on E-bay for 1970 to 1987.

No ... I'm waiting for the Leyland one to come through.

Still winning on the Resto book, but they've pushed to my £10 limit. One more bid will see me orf. Cheaper to buy through Amazon if it goes higher.

1985 seems to have been a complex period in RR construction. Fuel injection was first introduced (along with it's ECU), just after they built mine in August I'm thinking.
Johnny.

EFI introduced in Oct '85 for the Vogue models only. 'Standard' 4 doors kept carbs until '87 model year (I think :scratching_chin:)

you can have my resto book with the addtions for the 4 door for £10 no worries mate. dont bother with theirs

Thanks for the offer Fett, but my £10 held up and I won the E-bay one.
There's still a few more going on E-bay if anyone else wants one.
£12.99 post free on Amazon, or FEtt will sell yer one fer a Tenner.

Note: There's now a 1970 to 1980 Haynes manual on E-Bay.

Did they re-write this every year trying to get it right?
I'm wondering if they ever did?
