Possibly initially not the gas bottles but the fumes in the bilges. Running a fume extractor fan before starting the engine is normal on inboard petrol boats.

Seen one where fumes in the bilges got sparked, and another one where the bottle went of due to a fire caused by something else, probably a solid fuel stove. Also a girl was killed in a truck fire not far from here, propane bottle went up in that one as well!
The propane installations on boats are a bit better these days. Wouldnt have petrol on a boat at all if I could help it!

Ex father in law had a 28 ft Bayliner i used to skipper for him for fishing trips. Had a 6 cylinder Volvo petrol unit. Always ran the fans a while before firing that up. Better that than becoming toast.
