I have borrowed a torque wrench off my mates dad so looks like I am all set! Can't bloody wait =D
I took the head off mine to change the gasket and ended up with a parts list like yours but only 1 pushod rod needed changing;)

Thanks pos and all you guys i cant beleive fate i just logged on as im starting with me rings this morning cos ive got a week off work to do them so i thought id look up any old threads before i start and this was the first listed been told to use honing oil when honing as well is this needed or not.

Guess you got lucky! Apparently you can use WD40 when you're honing the cylinders. You will need running in oil however.

cheers pos dont know bout the lucky bit though got it all stripped down now but theres a bit of damage on one piston and a slight crack in another so im just orf to get a new set of pistons now oh and cracks in me hot plugs i see what they mean now about a credit card on the checklist ay how you getting on pos

I'm just about to go and pick her up from the garage - she's had a bit of welding done, and then I'm going to take the head off and drain the oil out of the bottom. Tomorrow, my tools should arrive and all can start to take shape (touch wood)

I'm hoping that the head / pistons aren't going to be cracked because I am now officially skint!

just had the life blown out of me got quoted £91.00 per piston so im looking about now seen em in paddock for £33.50 so thats a bit more realistic if they were £91 i would have given up and done a 200tdi transpant just off to Rochford 4x4 club meet now so ill see how your getting on tomorow. good luck pos

Evening, so far I have got the rocker cover off, sump off and big end caps loosened. Just can't seem to get the big head bolts to loosen off - nor the larger rocker shaft bolts. How do I get them to budge?

and Spinnach :D I have a torque wrench - should the extra leverage from that help me or do I just need to give it a really good tug? I'm hoping I wont need a compressor and wrench!

No! yer tork wrench is supposed t be a precision piece o kit, if yer wannit t fasten yer bolt back t the correct torque settins !
get a bit o bar onyer ratchin an give em a good yuckin!

I shouldn't be able to shear them off though? I tend to be very good at that. Could a tap from a hammer and a bit of heat do the trick?

Someone .... please tell me this guy is winding us up.
He can't be real.

Tell you what Pos, you had us all fooled for ages .... but the joke is over now.

OK?

CharlesY

Unfortunately I am not joking CharlesY!

I shall put my back in to it tomorrow Slob and see how it goes. Awkward thing is I'm having to stand on a milk crate cos ive got the front end up on ramps. I was pushing myself off the crate trying to undo them earlier. Will sit on my wing tops tomorrow!

Haha... You kid us on!..

A torque wrench is for tightening bolts up to an exact "torque", it in NO way adds torque or helps in the moving of nuts and bolts...

oh **** is that what CharlesY meant!? My torque wrench is really long which is what I meant by the extra torque / extra leverage! Not that it somehow gives me magical extra strength. Jese I'm not totally stupid =)
