The smoke is just the exhausts burning off grease from the install !!
- Tank fully drained & removed. The feed & return outlets on the pump were so rusty they snapped as I tried to loosen them. New fuel pump fitted.
- Tank strap cleaned, surface rust removed, and now treated with Kurust & Hammerite spray.
- Fuel pipes only had small amount of surface corrosion, so cleaned & re-painted. The unions needed lots of cleaning & new o-rings.
- Jet-washed as much as possible underneath the body & chassis while the tank was out.
- Re-installed tank, new filter & connected everything back up, and put 10 litres of clean fuel in.
- Engine started 2nd turn
Exhausts not connected yet so it's a bit noisy, but sounds great. Only ran it for 20 seconds because I still need to put all the cooling back on !!

Connected exhaust & cooling systems today. Runs much better but a bit lumpy. I could hear an air leak under the throttle body somewhere. Initially I thought it was one of the LPG pipes. These are connected to the LPG injectors, but none of it is powered yet, so just there to seal the inlet. Lifted off the throttle body, and all the pipes seemed ok. Hmmmmm.
Back months ago when I was cleaning stuff, I mislaid the throttle heater gasket, so installed a bypass hose. Forgot to check the bolt holes on the throttle chamber, which are actually open into the air tract !! Found the gasket today (in wrong box) so fitted the heater body again, and now no air leaks.
Engine runs like a dream with zero faults on Nanocom

Update time . . . . Intermittent progress over the last three years due to grandchildren appearing & too much time fixing other family cars.
After sorting various bits & bobs, exhaust finally re-connected early 2021, and then stuff like door latches & other electrics sorted in between all the Freelander x2, Jag XF, Corsa, BMW Z3 stuff I got dragged into every weekend. Then early 2022 some r-soles nicked my catalytic converters in the middle of the night.
Forward to this summer, and sorted a whole bunch of stuff ready for MOT. Sagging headlining replaced. All the pillar trims not covered as the beige plastic matches quite nicely, and easier to clean than that horrible furry stuff that LR applied. Pics to follow.
Replacement CAT's fitted. Cross member was a challenge but now re-fitted with clean bolts.
Next on the list is four new tyres & MOT . . . . then repairing the stereo wiring that someone has clearly butchered.

MOT passed & Taxed it today. Next jobs are Tracking, Bluetooth Stereo, AC Re-Gas & LPG Check.

Yep. Too many other jobs (5 family cars) each dry weekend. But only seven years isn't that bad !! I'm quite impressed how quick off the line a rebuild 4.0 actually is.
Now wondering whether to do my daily P38 4.6 as well, although that will (should) be a quicker job as it runs well but just slightly tired & needs sump leak fixing.

yes thought about that, but the discount at Son's workplace make the journey worthwhile !! Plan is to do the Green P38 first because that needs new compressor.
Blue project car will be done later after more important stuff. I did put vacuum on it about 3-4 weeks ago, so will be interesting to see if it's held.

Did the same. Simple to do
In the UK I don't think that it's worthwhile to regas yourself as so many places offer bargain regas at around £40 . I have used an ATS Groupon deal several times but it seems they aren't currently offering it. The P38 takes a lot of gas so the cost of aerosol cans to recharge will easily exceed £40.
As far as I can see the only use for DIY recharging is if you system is full of gas but you want to use something like STP Super Seal (sort of like Radweld for A/C) & need to top up the small amount of gas that got vented when you were adding the sealant product.

€18 for a DIY can compared to €60 for the cheapest garage refill, no contest for an impoverished pensioner.

Where are you finding R134a for that price ? Best I could find is £13.90 for 400g, so would need three to fill from empty.

I use Onbuy .com Last year someone selling and the more you bought the cheaper it got. Sure 3 cans was about £30
I really doubt that you bought 1200gms of R134a for only €18.
If you take it to a place with a proper A/C recharge machine they suck out all remaining gas then vacuum or pressure test then refill with the correct amount of R134a. The P38 takes 1200gms of gas.

At no point did I say the system was empty. I filled it from empty using cans 13 years ago and it has worked fine until recently although efficiency had been dropping off for a while. I just re-filled it to the correct pressure which took less than one can and it is working very well again.
