Good evening all, I hope you all had a good Christmas and new year.

I was driving along a country road in the dark tonight, their was a dip in the road which contained a very big puddle, probabley 20 ft long and about 8in deep, which as you can imagine made a very big splash, much to 5 year old sons amusement, however not to mine as my disco TD5 auto now won't pull. Anything more than a very light touch on the peddle she just stutters / judders / revs bounce, its as if it hits a limiter! Not much fun to drive. It did something similar a few weeks ago when she was at the end of a 200mile trip and i tried to pass a truck going up hill (which was a bit of an eye opener) Hope someone can help.

could be water ingress to the crankshaft sensor aswell, quite common ... or in the XYZ switch's plug(but that one usually triggers the M&S lights) ...also check the trottle position sensor(which could be just coincidently to the "wading" thing) ... though plugging in a tester would be a good start

As has been said it will be water in the elctrics. Go through everything you can see and blow out any water (cans of compressed air are good for this) from anywhere you find it. Try storing it in somewhere warm for a day if possible, if it hasnt dried out in a few days then take it to a garage for a full OBD check.
 
LOL, I can't stop laughing at your posts guys lol, yes that was some run right enough. The moon is nice this time of year ;-)

Anyway, she has been running without any problems for the last couple of months. And I was driving in heavy rain for 2 1/2 hrs on Thursday last week and she did it again. I have driven in heavier rain since but for much shorter times say 20-30 min. So water Ingress into something electrical sounds to be the most logical. I don't have access to diagnostics (without paying a garage) so I was going to look at the crankshaft sensor. Can someone advise where it is as I can only find a NAS spec rave which has nothing to do with TD5. Cheers guys (I pledge to reply to posts in a more timely manor in future)

The crank sensor would give you cutting out more than loss of power plus they are generally sealed units. I would get an OBD done or buy a cheap code reader for it, this can save lots of hassle and wasted time...

I believe the TD5 runs OBDII which is a standard code system, it will give you P codes which will help locate faults.

Alternativly I believe you can download the software to a laptop and use a cable, this will give you more info and will allow live data which is a massive help to finding faults.
 
Thanks for the info, downloading the software would be a great way forward, can someone tell me where to get it? or indeed what it's called?

so you think that TD5 is OBDII, so can I buy a code reader and just plug it in? as I believe that people have had problems trying to do it? I just don't want to spend money without it working. This is a new area to me so looking for help.

DON'T waste the money .... Td5 is not OBDII(EOBD) compliant, a generic reader will not comunicate with it, or it will give you false readings... if u want to make a good investment go for nanocom or hawkeye(which are not cheap but at least u are covered untill the end)
 
What about the possibility that it isn't the water at all?

What about the Air Mass Filter? Symptoms sound very similar to what my mercedes was doing from time to time then one day just didn't want to go no more!
Mine had nothing to do with water.

Just a suggestion....
 
I will have a look at the MAF sensor (I will search for how to check it)

Thanks for the advice on nanocom / hawkeye I will save up the pennies, Does anybody in Aberdeen have one that I could have have a look at?
