Right guys just bought a 2004 facelift disco 2 and while trying out all the bits and pieces I'm struggling to select diff lock (just trying to make sure everything works) I can select high and low box no problem but can't move the lever to the left to lock the diff in either position checking the manual it shows the diff lock warning light on the dash under the TC light and I can't see that.
Before buying I was told the diff lock was removed on vehicles from 2001 to 2002 and as this is a 2004 I thought it should be standard equipment.

Any help greatly received

Does it have diff lock on the nob? If not I doubt u have it, it'll be something like either one of these, if itz the first one you don't have diff lock

I've got an 04 Pursuit Disco TD5. The sticker in the car shows you how to put it in difflock, but the difflock isn't shown on the knob. Sure enough I don't have it. I guess it's the same with yours.

However, with the traction control, which they all have and some AT tyres, I haven't managed to get mine stuck despite snow, slippy grass or deep mud/rocks. I don't go offroading as such, so don't seek hard-to-do stuff, just use it as a tool on an upland farm.

If you want difflock despite this, then before the toys are thrown out of the pram completely, do a search on this site, you may find that it's reasonably easy to retro-fit.

You may be experienced and want difflock for a specific purpose, but despite difflock, traction control or whatever, the biggest factor in keeping grip in most situations is the rubber. A new set of tyres, especially if you've got road tyres will change your Disco into a very grippy thing.

my mate brought a diy aftermarket kit for his d2 a few years back, it cost a fair penny not sure how it works or were he got it from but the option of fitting 1 is out there

I suppose I need to get on my hands and knees and check out the top of the transfer box then.
Failing that I will have to sell the car and just get the latest reg Frontera I can a much better vehicle all round, fit and finish wise and will out perform a Disco without diff lock offroad

Oh dear how can you say that about a disco when you are obviously inexperienced. SHAME ON YOU my disco is upset now and yes it does have diff lock. An old mate of mine had a frontera and customs took it off him at Dover, he was realy upset about losing the beer
