Power Steering Box... What do you think?

So what are peoples thoughts on this..

I have a genuine trans seal kit to go in, but now i'm just like well do i weld a bit to it and sand it down or do i just buy a whole new box?

Do you mean the little chunk missing from the housing?
What will that affect?
If the casing isn't cracked and the part the seal goes in isn't damaged I would leave it.

Just above that its also pitted into the seal area, i need to disassemble the box, but that will be a job for tomorrow to see if it's worth salvaging.. but from what i understand this is the outer seal right?

If I remember rightly that seal doesn't stop oil getting out.
If it was me I would fit the kit since you have it.
How much is a new box nowadays, £700?

Is this an Adwest box ? If so I would have thought you would be seeing a circlip there. Unless that’s a dust cover sticking out !!

Yes it’s just a dust seal. Don’t worry about welding it.

On your rebuild are you going to use a disco drop arm kit?

Yeah i just took it out, there is a circlip behind it..

You may need to rebuild it a bit as they might want an exchange.. just make it look like a box. Does not need to work

I got the last reconditioned one I fitted to my Disco from AutoSteer Direct. Still leak free after a few years. It was £150 on ebay.
