Potential Oil pressure issue

Genuine sprocket bolt has arrived, and I've noticed it has a smear of yellow (I presume) thread lock already applied to 7 or so threads, (it appears to be completely dry) do you clever chaps know if I need to add more fresh thread lock of my own or is this OK to simply fit straight out of the bag? Just want to make sure I get this 100% correct!
That arrived quick! I think they are designed to be used as-is, but a bit more would never hurt!

I wouldn’t run 5w-30 in a td5 tbh unless you live in somewhere which exceeds -10 daily but that’s just my opinion, either a 5w40 or 10w40 will be fine

I dont like "oil debates" but i have to tell you that the lower limits of a w30 or w40 are the same, the difference is that the w40 is better if you live in very a warm climate

As long as the oil meets the requirements and is in the viscosity range for the engine/climate its Bob on. I change it every 5k with mahle or Mann filters, the oil isn't the problem.
More likely a relief valve spring weakening or oil pump getting tired/worn. Will be investigating shortly, changed out the old oil pressure switch with no difference. Getting an oil pressure check sorted soon, although many have reassured me that it's perfectly normal for the light to come on for a second or two during colder weather, its just in 8-9 years and 60 odd k miles it's never done it before so worth investigating.

I get you, but not all 5w30 oils are the same, some are better than others for various reasons:
5w-30 is fine in the td5.
fair enough it’s your engine, mine did what your describing in your thread back in 2016, think I even put it on here, after changing the oil and filters and using a different branded oil the light goes out straight away now, even years afterwards

Cheers mate, I appreciate any and all advice!

Having replied to your oil post I delved into the subject a bit more and came upon @sierrafery 's posts on the subject, including running it on the 5w-40 pd oil. I will be switching to this after I have done the pump bolt etc, as we have a 1.9 tdi b5 pd passat, so use that oil too and its good stuff. Will be interesting to see how I get on with it!

Hi guys, just a quick update. Oil pressure was fine, I replaced the switch with a new one just to be safe, but during brief periods of warmer weather the light has been functioning as normal, and when it drops it takes the second or so to extinguish, just like it's supposed to.
I've bought a whole new service kit using oem parts (mahle and mann) and have bought new comma pd-plus 5w-40 as advised by a few on here, so will be giving her a full service in the next few weeks.

Just to say thanks for all the tips and ideas, really appreciate it, so thank you! 😊
