Where was the diesel accumulated?
None had leaked out of the injector wells it was all still int here. , it became apparent they were sitting in a lot of pooled diesel when I pulled them out. I'm trying to think this one through myself. Surely if the injectors had been seated properly the nozzle would not be able to leak any diesel into the well and none would be able to force its way back out into the well. So even if a lot of diesel had been accumulating in the combustion chamber it would have to either stay there or leak away. How would it get into the well? But if the injectors were not seated fully I am not sure how I got that wrong, because I tapped them into place as recommended.

Unless when I reassembled the injectors after cleaning iI did not tighten to the recommended torque and fluid came out of the sleeve. But surely not that likely.

Not the injectors I now think. I put the other set in and same deal. Checked oil via dipstick again and I think diesel is in there with it. After turning engine over oil was way up the dip stick plus the bit on the end where the readings are cleaned off completely when I wiped it, which it never normally does. Plus it was thinner consistency than usual. Next job - replace high pressure fuel pump.
