Disco 2 Plug Lead Changing disaster

Hi, Decided to change the leads on the V8 as had a bit of a misfire when it was warm. What a nightmare having to lie on top of the engine and try and get the leads off. Anyway No 4 lead on the right hand coil pack broke off leaving a bit of lead in the coil. Can't get anything onto it to pull it out so will have to remove the coil pack. Anybody done it and is it straightforward? Need the car tomorrow. Any tips gratefully received, assume inlet manifold will be coming off. Thanks Ian

You have to take the upper manifold off and IMMEDIATELY put gaffer tape over the 8 inlet holes.

You'll need an 8mm hex socket on a longish extension, you can't see much down there, especially with aircon pipes or LPG pipes running across the bulkhead.

Screws are very easy to drop! A magnet on a stick is a useful accessory.

Four of them, two at the sides down the bottom of the packs and two at the front further up by memory. The upper front screws have to come out to release the upper manifold.

Sounds fiddly and it is. Picture shows the view once the upper manifold is off. The two screws holding to the coil to the upper manifold are out, I loosen the two bottom ones off a bit to allow the coil pack to tilt back a bit to give more room.

Hi Peter, Many Thanks for the advice, why I didn't take the manifold off in the first place I don't know as it is very straightforward, and makes changing the leads a doddle. Found all the manifold screws were loose, so that was probably causing the misfire. Car would miss and shudder when trying to hold a set speed, guess it was extra air getting in through the manifold which was upsetting the mix.
