Now the prop is off try and spin the VCU mounting bearings, see if they are stiff, noisy or floppy. While you have it there check the prop UJs. I have had to change the bearings and a couple of UJs on my V plate TD and will have to check the bearings on my 55 plate TD4 as it is starting to drone a bit. At least you still have use of the car while the prop is off. For cheap spares I can recommend 'Island 4x4' on E-bay, example Ujs from stealer £40, from island £7 with free delivery, when I got them, cannot remember how much the bearigs were, but they were a lot cheaper.
