Hi, I have a 2A that has a 200TDI engine and gearbox fitted, but it has the old axles which are not meant to be permanently in 4WD. Has anyone tried the Ashcroft part time kit and does it remove the centre diff to give straight through 4WD. The kit seems like a good idea but i dont want to loose the functionality of the diff lock.

Any info wood be helpfull
Cheers Robbo:)

The old series box doesn't have a centre diff which is why you weren't supposed to keep it in permanent 4wd. I'm not sure you'll be doing it a lot of harm keeping it in 4wd with the 200TDi box as long as you don't keep the centre difflock engaged all the time.

the kit you refer to comes originally from defender/disco/rrc freewheel hub kit ,it replaces center diff gears making it rear wheel drive until you engage diff lock ,ive used a lot of them its the most professional way of sorting lt230 to series but not only way

i know someone that owns/drives an 88" Series with 200tdi/LT77/LT230 combination without problems, it has the occaisional light kickback through the steering when performing low speed tight manouveres

i had a small test drive in it myself just to experience it and found it quite nice, i deliberately took it into tight manouveres on tarmac and felt no problems at all with it (no kickback for me)

i'm not sure i'd bother spending the money on any further modification going on my test drive

thanks for the info guys. The reason i ask is because i have to replace my gearbox and while its out it seems to make sense to do the conversion, i just needed to know a bit more before deciding

Cheers Robbo
