Good to meet you both today.
Thanks again for the tows Nick. I real pain the thing cutting out intermittantly. That rather big puddle wasnt such a good idea with the ECU under the driver seat!
It cut out again a few times on the way home, but fortunately it was getting better the nearer I got back to Manchester.
I think Your dash heater worked wonders on that ECU, but just taken it back out now, still a little bit in there. Just working out how to get into the box without completely destroying it.
I'm thinking theres other electrical bits /connectors that needs water proofing too.

Top day tho, lots of routes and variation. My mate Rob will be in his too next time.
Forgot to take an pics (too pre-occupied with an engine prone to cutting out), but think Rob took a few, so will post up once I see them.

Yeah, next month definately.
May steer clear of too much water (well atleast stuff that goes over the bonnet), until I get the issues sorted and am happy with it.
Your motor suprised us both too. There was definately some steep bits where we thought you wouldn't get up....let alone pull a dead Range Rover up too!

i really struggled earlier in the day.. too much ice but as it got ground up during the day it got easier..
it is a grerat place and loads of varied routes... just a bit of a maze to find yr way round at first...

forgot to add that you got the bargain of you're life when you bought that.

Yeah, despite me moaning about it cutting out I have to remember I didnt pay much for it. My Green roader RR was more money and is basically stock with no add-ons.....Ebay has a lot to answer for! lol

try to relocate the ecu joe

simple job of raising it up as far as the loom will allow, and or remove seat and relocate on centre console etc etc

needs doing anyway! and then theres the dizzy to tackle!

Yeah. Was speaking to someone with a defender who's done just that. Was thinking of extending wiring (about 70cm wires extension) to mount that lot on rear bulkhead (ie not far behind driverseat)...or, as you suggest, maybe put it around where the centre console or cubby box is.
Ignition coil and dizzy both sorted with silicone covers...although there was a fair amount of crap in the socket on the external lecky module when I unplugged it...needed grease sealing mthinks

It drives like a bag of **** on the road, and is unreliable off the road (well..in water anyway)
Logic and head says to me get fkin rid of it sharpish!.
Heart says, its gotta be worth persisting with....even if only to stop me doin something stupid with my other RR (like take it pay-n-playing)

Mate Rob just got a short vid of me going through a small puddle at Tong...This was about 5mins before engine cut out in another part, much deeper muddy water way up to the bonnet!

Reminds me I should get the centre box off and put a straight pipe in there to add a better sound (it's far too quiet!)

warning: removal of centre box can result in very loud car!!

i dont know what it would be like with a back box fitted, but i tested mine with no silencers and it was ridiculously loud. a backbox might make a nice sound, but then itmight get ripped off, so a centre box is a safer bet. fit a small centre box : happy days

Its got a short cheerybomb type thing at the back, and the original stock centre box but everything after the centre box has been moved I guess after the previous owner moved the tank up into the 'boot' under the spare wheels/ballast.....so, yes, maybe another cherrybomb in the centre might be a better idea thinking about it?

Offhand, you don't happen to know the centre box pipe diameters do you? (so I can get a cherry bomb bought now without leavin the comfort of the sofa!!..... )

True...but this one is way up high over the rear axle......tho to be honest I did loose a (useless) mudflap on sunday... so maybe thats also an omen!

ya sould be more concerned with movin ya BLACK box than ya back or centre box.. it wont make any noise til ya get that sorted!!!! lol...

all it is joe is that your quite likely to catch the rear end when you drop off a step or similar, i have often clouted my tail pipe, to the extent that i have now cut it down so that its well inside the chassis line.

i cant say your gonna have the same problem - just bear it in mind when your figuring out your system!

the black boxes that are indistructable in an aircraft crash.....yeah!!!

P.S....I took it out when I got back....it's still on the kitchen radiator now! lol

you could always but it in a ziplock sanwich or freezer bag and then silicon round any gaps round the wiring??
dunno how durable it would be...
