On the 109 I'm very slowly restoring I want to repaint the brake back plates and maybe the drums. It looks like the originals were powder coated will red oxide and chassis black do on the back plates? What to use (if anything) on the drums?

Cheers

Enamel (can you still get Japlac?) over red oxide seems to work but there's all sorts of newer solutions. My son has just sprayed a roll cage with Rustoleum satin straight onto the bare steel and it looks good.

Painting black is fine but to save the effort consider powder coating. I was always against it and still am for some applications. This week I have had a wheel hub and wheel rim for my 1929 bike coated for £15 including blasting. The results are amazing.

ive been spraying the back plates with red oxide and hammerite silver. putting new drums on, but probably wouldn't paint old ones if i was keeping

Cheers lads,

I'm not a fan of powder coating, I could probably get it done for free or price of a pint if I wanted but had too much disappointment in the past...

I'll red oxide the drums and red oxide and chassis black the back plates (I've got a lot of chassis black!)

Cheers lads
