Paint mixed with sand ??

Hello,
I'm in the process of tidying up the rear tub of my series 3 109 FFR. One task that needs doing is removing a coat of what appears to be NATO Green paint mixed with sand. Has anyone come across this before on an ex military vehicle ?
It may have been done after being released from the military but I have no way of knowing. I'm not sure if it is meant to be cheap non slip or something similar. It flakes off fairly easily but some will need the hammer and chisel treatment. I don't think sanding discs would last long against it. It only appears in the tub, not the cab or exterior. This assumes it's the original tub.

Could be, although unusual in a 'B' Vehicle. There is a gritty non-slip walkway paint intended for the top surfaces of certain 'A' Vehicles & SPGs. It is available in matt NATO Green IRR & gloss NATO Green non-IRR.

I used to apply it many yrs ago when a company i worked for got the contract to refurbish Vickers bridging.
Applied by roller on the pongo's walkways.
Never tried to remove it though.
Try some cellulose thinner, that might wrinkle it up ?

Paint stripper should shift it, aircraft grade

Had a go at a patch of it with some Hammerite thinners I had lurking in the shed today. Brushed it on and left for about 10-15 mins before scrapping the paint off with an old chisel. Seems to work well, though I'm only going to be doing the odd 1/4 hour on it between other jobs to save my sanity..

Have seen this as a non-slip finish on MTBs and other boats.

Have you tried good ol' Nitromors ?

Or a paint heat strip gun ?

I was trying to preserve the paint underneath the non-slip stuff as where it has flaked off the paint is quite good. Nitromors will make everything bubble and come off, though I'm not discounting going down that route in the future. "Ooh, shabby chic" was how SWMBO described the truck, so I'm sticking with that.It's also the easier option.
