apparently its not as bad as you might think compared to the amount of money that will be made they recon that 3 out 4 pits could be reopened and be financially viable
As long as i don't have to go down them.

Wouldent think there'd be thats much demand for the quantity left other than powerstations! and everyone kicking off for renewable fuel now!

Scargill holding the country to ransome continually cutting off power supples killed the pits, just as the unions killed the London docks with restrictive practices. With strong management the unions would never have got into the position of calling the shots. Unite are at it again just as in the 70's at Grangemouth. They don't give a **** about the employees, they will cause it to to be shut down with their intransigence, it can't survive losing £150 million a year but to the union power is all that matters.Yes they had a hand in it and reform was much needed. But just shutting everything down and let them rot on the dole was her answer to the problem. She shut the pits out of spite and used 250 years worth of domestic gas supply to generate electricity. That was a really smart move. We are suffering badly from that now. The woman should have been bloody shot.
Engineered a war? Do you mean the Falklands? I suppose she paid the Argies to attack? Blair is the only recent politician to engineer a war, the one agains Saddam. She put a lot of people on their feet, stood in long dole queues. The north in general was left to rot without investment. She used north sea oil and gas revenue to pay for the dole. Engineered a war for her own ends, many of the papers regarding that have still not been released, despite the thirty year rule. A lot is hidden maybe never to be seen.
It's EU regulations that have forced the premature closure of coal fired power stations, agreed by the last labour government.the government has even screwed that one up shutting down the coal powered before the nuclear one have even been built they are still 10 years behind schedule
You forgot volcanoes, they produce more polutants than the human race.Yeah that's about it. WE pay climate tax on motor fuel, Gas, Electric and just about everything else, spend billions building windmills so that private companies can make billions in profit. Yet we product just 2% of the worlds CO2. If we stopped producing CO2 tomorrow. China and India would exceed that by some margin in a month or so. Think i read somewhere that China opens four new coal power stations a month. We are having the **** taken out of us by our government. No wonder that Russian said the UK was just a little island nobody takes notice of. He is right, but our politicians always try to be in the big league and lead the world in this or that. The really big CO2 producers must be laughing their bollocks off at us crippling ourselves to try and be world leaders in something.

When did you move down there?
I am welsh/Irish but have lived in South of England all my life. I can be same scrappy! Not many southern women would get under a Rangie to grease their UJs, I'll grant you that!
Again......Oi !!!!Not many southern men either. May get dirt under their nails.. The first comment was tongue in cheek though Rachel, not really supposed to be taken seriously.

Excellent to see good political debate going on here ... (I'm with Wammers on this one)
To bring the eco arguement it back round to Landies tho' - how about all the nonsense about 'green' vehicles? The greenest vehicle is an old one. The energy and resourses used to make new ones far exceed the wee bit extra fuel used by an old one that is kept going with the help of you lot on this forum.

As for Nuclear, it's the most dangerous and poluting source of power in the universe.
Thorium/saltwater reactors are the only safe source of generating power.
Same as Hillsborough mate, treat us like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed on bull****. Has anyone ever worked out how much CO and other pollutants have been released into the atmosphere by all the wars in the last 100+ years? I'm sure some professor somewhere will get a government grant to carry out the researchThink you have your eyes closed on that one Keith. Either by very, very bad management of the situation or on purpose she created the conditions that allowed the invasion. The government knew the Argies were preparing an invasion. The previous government sent a fleet nuclear sub down there and made it's presence known to the Argies when they were preparing earlier. That stopped them cold in their tracks. She could have done the same. What did she do? Put a marine on every piece of rock sticking up out of the water. Because without military presence there can in law be no armed invasion. Then withdrew the navy from the area. It was an open invitation to invade. She alone is responsible for the British and Argie deaths in that war, it could have and should have been avoided. Despite the thirty year disclosure rule having passed long ago, government papers (Cabinet minutes Etc) concerning the lead up to it have never been released and are still classified as secret. WHY?
