P38 window problem

P38 T/Diesel year 2001.
A sudden fault has developed with both the nearside electric windows. Initially they can both be operated to go down. However they will then not go up. I can get the windows to go up by stopping the car and then operating the remote twice to lock the doors - i.e. "lazy park". However the fault persists.
Any ideas anyone please ?
It seems strange that it is the same fault with both nearside windows (the other side operate normally).
Is this anything to do with the BECM ?

I'd try squirting some electrical contact cleaner in the switchpack. Is it only off the switchpack or the rear window switch also does it?

As Grrrrr mentions, if the rear window can still be lifted by the switch in the door, then it's another marker on the switchpack being the root cause as the inputs to the BECM from the main switchpack and the rear window switches are operated slightly differently.

I doubt it's a BECM fault if the rest of the windows (and sunroof where fitted) are working properly, and the fact you can close them with lazy lock (which you shouldn't need to double press the remote - just a single 'press and hold' should activate the lazy locking.

Thanks very much Marty and Grrrrr for the replies. The switch in the door for the rear window doesnt operate the window either. The only way I can close the 2 windows is with the "lazy lock". The sunroof operates normally.
Does this point to just a fault in the switchpack i.e. the 2 switches ? Seems a bit odd that both switches have gone wrong at the same time - or is this normal RR behaviour ??

It's not uncommon for the rear window switches to stop, no - I've seen it on a fair number of switchpacks where it thinks that the rear window inhibit is on all the time, so the rear windows don't work.
Also not uncommon for a pair of the switches to fail - for some reason a lot of the ones I pull apart and repair seem to have faults on the passenger side, and usually just in one direction aswell.

I would say that it would be worthwhile looking into replacing the switchpack for a known-working one and seeing if that cures it. I would not be surprised if it does!
