I need help please with my P38 98 RR HSE sunroof seal. The sunroof was fully operational prior to changing the leaky sunroof seal. I've dissembled the glass panel as instructed in the Workshop manual, replaced the glass seal and reassembled in reverse order. Should have been easy enough . . . not so much!

The problem is the new seal seems as if it is much bigger and therefore won't fit the opening. I've reseated the new seal three times on the glass, pulling it as tight as possible with no change in outcome. I've also triple checked that I have the correct part, which I have. With the new seal the sunroof panel has to be forcefully shoved down into the opening in the roof to fit within the roof opening. With the new seal, the sunroof will tilt up but not retract/open. At the same time the computer shows the anti-trip message and also shows the sunroof is blocked. When I turn the car off the computer shows the sunroof is open even after I've manually pushed it down closed (have to disconnect the back torx screws to do this). The back torx screws also do not line up in the original position. When in their original position the back of the sunroof seal sticks up about 1/4" above the roof of the car. I've tried countless adjustments to the front and back torx screws with no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or does anyone know what step(s) I'm missing to get the new seal to fit properly? I've spent hours trying to get the new seal to fit and sunroof to operate normally. I'd greatly appreciate your assistance!!! Please help! :)

Apologies for bringing up an old thread/topic. I have exactly the same problem with the sunroof on my P38A and I was wondering if you managed to solve the issue.

Did mine last weekend using the seal from Island 4x4 "Sunroof Seal P38 (Genuine) EEQ100400 (EEQ100400) = £40.00". It was about 1" too long, so after making sure if was properly seated all round, I left the roof in the sunshine for about an hour. Then re-checked the seal was full seated onto the glass, and cut to length.

It fits ok into the roof aperture, but does need a little help closing correctly. Will be adding some silicon grease to help ease it in & out, whilie I open & close the roof daily until the seal beds in !!

Pete

Mine was fitted by a Land Rover main dealer. The rubber seal is definitely too wide (it was cut to the correct length and seated properly) and it is stopping the roof from functioning correctly. I have noticed that the seal doesn't have the 'felt' around the edge like the original seal.
