Hello to everyone, I have recently got a replacement steering wheel for my 1998 P38 and am itching to get it fitted. As far as I am aware to remove the original all I have to do is undo the 4 rear nuts releasing the airbag and exposing the large center nut, then just undo this to remove the old wheel.

Does this sound right so far?

Also I have heard the battery must be disconnected to prevent airbag problems. How long should I leave after disconnecting the battery and are any problems likely to occur when the operation is complete? (ie warning lights etc)

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Thats all ok,just get on with it AFTER disconnecting the battery,no need to wait, wheel comes off easily. As long as the battery is in a good state of charge you wont have any warning light issues after, all you need to do is reset the windows, sunroof and recode the radio.

Please DO NOT jump straight in. The airbag system can carry a residual charge AFTER the battery has been disconnected. Although it is a safety feature, they are quite capable of KILLING you. Take your time and wait at least half an hour after disconnecting the battery before fiddling....

lol some people get all the luck! I'll get reading my handbook in the morning. Thanks again.
